I'm having a really hard time paying property taxes

Also man know your audience... Not many cops or soldiers got their pay from non-tax dollars. It's cool to pay up within reason. Keeps murderers in jail, roads open, all the good shit mostly... nothing is perfect and unless you are some kind of weirdo just run for twp supervisor and suppress future increases from within :)

The roads in this city are crumbling, practically everywhere. The patched patches need patching. Taxes have gone up 400% since I bought this house.
I/we have NOT received 400% better service. We haven't even received 40% better service.

But the city has replaced ALL street lights (sodium-vapor to LED's)
The city has replaced almost all traffic lights (incandescent to LED's)
Almost every bus-stop at an interchange has an LED readout (updated wirelessly, every minute) to indicate when the next route buss's shall arrive.
The city has a fleet of new 'personal vehicles'.
The city has a totally rebuilt Police building, that used to be the Canada Post building but needed to be completely rebuilt. And THAT came in at around 700 MILLION over budget.
The city doesn't have 'direct lines' anymore, to call anyone in the city system. Everything/everyone is directed to call 311, and your call will be responded to by an answering service. If needed, your call will be forwarded to the appropriate department. Then, and only then, someone MIGHT call you back. Otherwise, look at the city website 'frequently asked questions' for solutions to your problem.

Really, who could be happy with this? Property taxes aren't extortion, how? I don't have a problem paying 'my fair share' for services. But exactly how is it dictated what 'my fair share' is, and on 'what' services?

Oh, and with regards to LEO's, how about this one:
My vehicle was broken into. So I go to the local police department to report it. NOPE, this building has been closed, gotta go to the 'new one' that is about 4 miles (as the crow flies) away.
I go in there and there's 3 people sitting in 'waiting chairs' while there are also 3 separate officers sitting behind the long front desk. I don't see any 'take a number' devices around, so I go up to one of the officers at the desk.
"I'd like to make a police report."
We don't do that here- was the reply.
"Whom do I speak to, about vehicle break-ins in my area?"
we're busy, maybe try the website-was the reply.
--I turned around and asked the three people sitting if they've been helped yet? All shook their heads and said "no".

Is this how "society" is supposed to operate?

Not because I can't afford it, but because I don't use 98% of what the fuck I'm being billed for.

Procrastinating until the last day, because fuck them getting this any sooner than I have to pay it, and I'm just having a hard time sending this to them. Basically, this bullshit bill is for:

Library Fund - lol library? I'm not poor

Water conservancy - WTF am I conserving? There's water in my fucking pipes in the house and out back in the pool. Fuck your water.

Local/State School Fund - This is 90% of the bill. I have zero children. I wish more people would have zero children. I don't want to educate your fuck trophies, and I believe that if you had to pay per child each year for school, you'd stop fucking having more kids because your white trash ass can't afford them.

General Fund - You're not even trying to hide the graft anymore. General fund? Seriously?

Mosquito Abatement - This is the only fucking thing I agree with and use. It's a whole 11$ for the year too.

So basically, of my entire property tax bill, if it were an ala cart menu, I'd order 11$ worth of shit and my quality of life wouldn't change one bit. There's no cost for garbage services or police/fire in this unless its the 'general fund' bullshit. I'd probably kick in a little for the fire department and trash collection then but thats it.

And ok, I'll be honest. The Utah property tax rate is fire sale cheap compared to Florida, or Chicago. I get that. It's basically 1/2 of what I paid for a house in Florida worth 1/3 of what my house is worth here and its 1/6 of my brother's property tax bill outside of Chicago for a 1800 sq foot house in the suburbs. But honestly, its ALL too much especially when you're not using any of it.

The first year I went in to pay it in person because they had some errors on the first year's taxes and I had gotten paperwork to amend it. The lady there asked if there were any other problems with it and I causally said, yeah, it's not $0. She laughed a little and said, oh its not that bad compared to some places to which I replied, well, some people like having sex with animals too, so I guess that can't be that bad either.

Morale of the story; my property taxes shouldn't be paying for anyone's obligations but my own. Stop having fucking kids you can't afford and no, I don't want to fund your bullshit project/program. I've somewhat considered running for mayor on basically, 'raise your hand if you want to gut property taxes down to just paying for what we actually 110% need'.

Fuck those faggots.

Just wondering what property taxes cost for living in Utah roughly ?

I got village tax...mostly for private local cops not county cops
Got County Tax for WTF roads county police, political theft of course

Whoa, man. Did I read that right? You're paying 40k in property taxes every year?

Why are you reading some douchebags post ranting about taxes while having dinner with your lovely wife?

I think he was laughing at the NOM NOM NOM reply, not reading the douchebag ra ... hey, wait a minute ...

Taxes on people with no money doesn't work, in a couple years they would have hit a billion dollars in unpaid fees - people with real jobs are just going to have to keep paying because they have the real money and assets.
Also man know your audience... Not many cops or soldiers got their pay from non-tax dollars. It's cool to pay up within reason. Keeps murderers in jail, roads open, all the good shit mostly...

Not sure how protesting grossly unfair and unbalanced taxes got translated into opposition to paying the salaries of law enforcement and the military. I fully support both and am willing to contribute to them financially, but my required contribution to receive the benefits of those, or any government service, should not be more than anyone else is required to contribute if we are all receiving those services in equal measure. And who is going to decide what is a reasonable amount? Twenty-five percent of the value of my assets? Fifty percent? Ninety percent?

We can argue semantics, but taxes are nothing more than the price each person pays for government services. If you are satisfied paying more than me to read the same library book because some beaurocrat says your house is worth more than mine, that's your business, but I think it's absurd. If the government cannot afford to run the library because not everyone can afford the fees and therefore they aren't bringing in enough revenue, then the government needs to focus on reducing their costs and making the fees more affordable for everyone, not concocting schemes to extract more money from those they think have more to give. Eventually even the top contributors run out of money and the whole thing collapses.

Has it ever worked like that? What a nice idea.

Who the hell actually uses public libraries anymore? As a kid it was a treat to go to the library but I just don't see that happening anymore. Last time I was in public library was to drop off docs that had to be made available to the public (which I doubt anyone ever looked at) and other than one lady at the desk, only folks there were a couple of clowns that probably spent every day there. I'm all for providing books for poor kids but it doesn't take a library to do that.

Not sure it ever has, but I think that was at least the general idea when the republic was founded.

Who the hell actually uses public libraries anymore? .

I doubt enough people do to justify keeping them open. My city bulldozed the public library a couple years ago to make room for executive apartments. The city also contributed $2.5M toward construction costs and gave the developers a 7 year property tax abatement. The bottom floor of the apartment complex is commercial space, the largest portion of which is now rented out by the city for the new public library. How can the city afford this? By turning the screws on property tax paying homeowners. Hence the rant.

My property taxes have significantly increased every year for the past several while my income has not. If that’s a net positive, it’s not for me. I’m literally being taxed out of the home I paid for.

I have always hated property tax. I understand that we have to keep revenue flowing through the government, but my parents own their home outright and they pay top-dollar every year on taxes. If they don't pay those taxes, the government can come in and take the home? That is just insane to me.
