Re: IMI desert baby eagle 9mm thoughts

A decocker that works as a trigger...sounds great! I'm assumin its not so much a design issue as something requiring maintanence like a spring replacement some where? Anyone else have any experience with these. I know the one major difference between these and the CZ's is the lide mounted decocker.

I can't say as it wasn't my pistol, and my friend isn't too savvy on maintenance or repairs....

Re: IMI desert baby eagle 9mm thoughts

I have one in a .40 and never had any trouble with it. I have heard some others say they had decocker issues as well but never seen one fail in person. One only hopes they have it in a safe direction when it fails. I can't speak any bad about it. Mines only got about 1k rounds through it and has never FTF or jambed. Its not my first goto .40 if i'm plinkin so it doesn't get much use. Its a family gun so my DE357 don't get home sick. Mines also the smaller of the two they had out then. I don't remember if their was even a part number difference but one was slightly smaller than the other. Maybe a half inch on the grip. I think the barrel was a little shorter too but only a 1/4 inch or so.

Re: IMI desert baby eagle 9mm thoughts

A little late with the post. I have a 9mm IMI baby eagle that I bought just prior to the AWB in 94. I have at least 15K rounds down the barrel. I just ordered some replacement springs this past week along with a Hogue grip. That thing is awesome. We nicknamed the Hogue grips on our ARs "boob grips".

The mag springs needed to be changed a few years ago. I had some issues with them during a couple of USPSA shoots. I just sent the slide into Trijicon for ampule replacement. The sights have been pretty dim for years.

They are built like a tank. The best feeling gun I have ever held.

I used to have one in 9mm. Accurate, reliable, HEAVY. It made a great bowling pin gun back when I shot in those local matches. The weight helped in those shoots. Never had a de-cocker problem.

Was my first handgun YEARS ago.. since getting it my wife has confiscated it from me for herself. It's always worked 100% and is very accurate. My only complaint is the decocker on the slide.. I just don't care for the position when cambering a round. I prefer the ergos of my CZ75 to the BDE.

Re: IMI desert baby eagle 9mm thoughts

I had a 45 a while back; my first pistol.

Shot great, slick as hell and very sexy feeling. Accurate and reliable. Put maybe 6000 rounds through it.

It was heavy though, and difficult to find a non custom holster. The only reason I sold it was to get something a little easier to carry. For a house/range/anything else gun it would be great.

No aftermarket support then; that may have changed now though.

My decocker functioned fine.

Re: IMI desert baby eagle 9mm thoughts

Heavy, and the slide was small and it made it hard to clear jams and manipulate. Mine was a chrome .40 btw. 2 of my 6 magazines would have problems. The base plate would come off, but I pinched the sides down and that fixed it. I'd get a cz75 over it if I got another. I got a 1911 and a glock after that... get a glock!!!
