Re: IMR Trail Boss Corrosion Test (start)
in for the results....
after using TB subsonic loads in my 308 AAC (suppressed) a couple of months ago, i unfortunately did not clean the rifle until the next outing about 3 weeks later. the barrel crown was eaten up pretty bad. can verify because i borescoped the bore before shooting and after, and the metal looked like the moon-scape. havent looked inside the suppressor but will now that the crown of the barrel was eaten up pretty bad, however, the borescope makes small pits looks like large craters so perhaps its not that big of a deal. gun is at my smith right now getting the crown redone, but i'll be dammed sure to clean if after shooting subsonic loads with trail boss from now on.
ETA-should mention my AAC rifle has experience A LOT of exterior corrosion showing up on the barrel since new and maybe this barrel is just prone to corrosion. not sure yet, but regular oiling has not kept it from coming back even while it sits in the safe with all its happy friends. just switched to LPS-3 which has a lot more corrosion inhibitors than regular oils so that should help, but will probably duracoat it soon to avoid the additional hassles experienced to date. none of my other guns rust like this AAC does, so perhaps i got a lemon of sorts. time will tell.
