In what way was Larry abused as a child?

Sigh... Setting auto darkener to 10...

Meh...that was actually very cordial from Frank; I've seen a lot sterner responses.

<shrug> I missed all the fireworks this time. I'll go back to the Idaho thread and stir some shit up again if I need some excitement...

ETA: Damn. Frank beat me to the punch...those short guys are fast. ?

Very dangerous over short distances...

@lowlight Well I guess we're on the same page now, you and I aren't friends and thats fine. As long as I'm still here I'll go back to semi auto to argue about gas systems and probably unfollow this thread since the entertainment value was lower than anticipated.

It's the wild west. Go into town hit the general store and then the blacksmith. And later take the wife to dinner at the hotel. Lots of good people going about their business. But the town does have a saloon too. The Sheriff lets the saloon be a saloon. He warns the Ladies of feint heart to avoid the saloon. Then if they go well they go.

But every now and then one of the town drunks gets out of the saloon and starts raising hell. The Sheriff and his Deputies know he is a good guy, so they are tolerant to a point. But still the drunk starts bothering some of the town folk and must be dealt with. So they throw him in jail for the night and let him sleep it off.

It's a nice town and generally a peaceful town. It also feels like a very free town. I like the wild west.

I just love how people feel the need to lecture me about running the site

as someone posted in the other Larry thread, I tend to look at these lectures in a negative way, so why people continue to try and lecture me is confusing

I want to stroll into these people's house some morning, insult their wife, kick the dog, call the kids stupid and then follow them to work, rinse, wash, repeat, breaking down every aspect of how they operate.

amazing really, but that again I am accessible

You forgot to shit on the floor.

Honestly, I’m amazed Frank is as grounded as he is.

I used to be a mod and technical editor on another site back in the day (late 90's). At one point that site became the #1 Outdoor forum on the 'net. And in doing so, I watched what became of the owner/founder...and it was sad. Some can't handle success, and others just roll with it and move to the next big thing.

I still remember that guy, drunk off his ass at 7am in the morning, at SHOT Show, having a tirade and yelling at us (his "Prostaff") and everyone just staring deadpan, shaking their heads because of what he had become.

While Frank is animated and opinionated, he (and his staff) run (IMHO) a pretty orderly house here...

I dont consider myself a big fish here by any means. I'd almost bet money Im the youngest person in this thread... so flame me if ya must for what Im gonna say, but I always see everyone saying how "Larry knows his shit" "Larry really does know alot about precision shooting" etc etc..
He knows how to type in a pretty way, but as far as the actual meat and potatoes, the knowledge he puts out there is really pretty basic stuff IMO. Eg matching a cartridge OAL to action/mag length, literally every 2 or 3 posts by him has something along those lines. I aint bashing em nor praising. Really dont give a damn either way. But when I want to talk to people who really "know their shit" and ask intricate questions on lessening vertical dispersion @ 1000 via positive compensation or some such, Larry aint the one I go to...
alinwa on benchrest central DOES know his shit.. Tom Mousel(1000yd benchrest champ) and his gunsmith Alex Wheeler DO know their shit.
Forgot what point I was tryna make, but flame me if ya must for not being so impressed

Almost a serious question. His posts are all deleted now but Larry, most recently known as Bare There, made a comeback and once again proved himself to be the most unreasonable person I've ever seen on a forum. If you saw the 3x9 Varmit scope thread you know what I mean. What makes a man this way?
It was his primary flame out thread, but he did manage to sprinkle his retardation and horrible sentence structure to most corners of the forum and negate any useful information being shared in any thread he touched.
No hurt feelings on my end, I only tried to converse with him once but he got banned shortly thereafter. He did try to spread some real information on load data here and there but when you follow up every post with single digit IQ profanity and then a picture of a salmon it ruins any of the info.
The big threads make no sense though. He's like a drunk guy pushing into a bar to proclaim that the sky is green then wanting to fight with everyone that disagrees with him. Its painful to watch.
You do understand that someone else can not make you "feel" anything. Any emotional reaction you have is on you not someone else.

I fail to understand how or why you would let someone you don't know, and will never know (outside of the internet) get the better of you.

Part of fucking with people is to get a reaction, no reaction and the joke is on the other guy.

As I said in the other thread. The ignore button is just as easy as the report button. The reason most will not use the ignore button is because of FOMO.

Larry is more a practical application guy

He hunts some pretty dangerous stuff with calibers most people would consider too small

He is not a technical guy by any means, but he does have a ton of practical application experience

I do miss the old Hide and the shout box along with some of the more colorful characters that were around then.
I guess This thread and the many other similar threads demonstrate why the changes were necessary.

It also shows us a tiny sliver of the epic piles of BS that the HMFIC and mods have to deal with.

Thanks @Frank and @Tucker and all the rest.
There are a lot of members who don’t say much, but definitely appreciate this place and all the work you do to keep it running smoothly.

I can't really ignore this thread and let it go on its way if I get quoted back in!
In hindsight, I should've either not started it or titled it 'Larry seems like an anomaly here, whats his story?' and then maybe I would've got an answer instead of just being told that my feelings were hurt, which is not the case. Again, he and I never got the chance to converse, and when he returns I'll just stand back and watch the fireworks without questioning it.

No doubt. Hes still on 24hourcampfire as "Big Stick" AFAIK, which is also a great site tho much more geared toward hunting. I will say this for Mr Larry which I do respect, he does seem to experiment with a wide array of stuff. I dont respect anyone who spouts stuff they havent performed in real life.

On that note, wasnt it Larry who wanted to like disprove bolt thrust or something like that, and he put a live .30-30 round in a unscrewed barrel, then touched the round off with a nail and hammer?? HAHA

I haven't seen the thread or threads in question that were the source of all this tumult, but from what I am hearing, this guy seems to be a legit badass, as opposed to some other notorious denizens of gun forums that turned out to be posers. What a pity Larry has to make himself unlikeable on purpose. A guy like him with his experience would be a major asset and front man to our cause and the representation of this sport.

ETA Id be grateful to anyone that can find the vid where he touched off the .30-30 round in a action-less barrel. That was hilarious

After thinking about it, I bet he aint a bad guy at all in real life. @lowlight is likely spot on. Ive never had a issue with em, but him being somewhat rough round the edges or whatever is likely very purposeful. OTOH from what I remember of his vids, he does have a better than decent sense a humor.

Anyone seen his "barrel break in" vid? LOL lemme see if I can find it

Well since you asked for it.
If I am out in the real world and have to make a shot in some fugged up condition, position, weather or what happens in the wild, and I had a choice of who's opinion would feed my family. I would put my trust in Larry over any of the bench rest gurus.

He is also on another site where he absolutely behaves and has a demeanor unlike it is here and 24Hour. As Frank pointed out earlier, he has a shit ton of practical knowledge. When it comes to reloading, he can speak as technically well as anyone I have read here.

As someone else pointed out, your emotional response is under your control...scroll on by if you don't like it. I have been keelhauled by Larry on a couple of occasions but he turned out to be correct on both counts.

YMMV

All the butt hurts complaining about Larry......

You want to get back at him, really hurt him?

Next time he comes back on, and rest assured he will be back.

Check your tears, fight the urge to Hit the report button, just Ignore him.

Not taking the bait may just be the best attack to assuage your hurt feelings.

Maybe the new tactic will explode Larrys head. This is you thinking SWFA scopes suck......

But until the moment that your brilliant tactic of ignoring him causes him to tire of our simple lives the rest of us will get to enjoy some real PRS stories, not the set up stages ones.

To each their own.. for most of the stuff you mentioned Id just ask my pap or @lowlight

ETA: I know the popular stance here is to look down on the BR & F Class crowd as fudds who don’t know how to shoot in a realistic fashion. But just look at the 6 Dasher and BRAI now FINALLY being used by the practical crowd when the BR/F-Class/High Power crowd have been touting its virtues for basically decades. Most of the accuracy enhancing practices now commonplace were discovered and proven by those old skill-less BR hags..and to this day they are constantly testing cutting edge stuff to try squeak out that last 1/100 of a inch

And those are good things.

I don't know the "severity" of the flooding of complaints that you/the mods were subjected to, but if the reward (his knowledge) outweighs the downside (complaints/crying by snowflakes), then consider bringing him back.

I dunno.......I don't understand why people can't just "ignore" either. I signed on three years ago and had no understanding of what the Hide was all about or the rules. I came across Larry early on and quickly determined that he craved attention and acted outside the wire of societal norms in order to gain said attention. Nothing has changed. What did I do back then ? I ignored him and moved on to other things. Since then, I have made a number of friends here that are very important to me. Larry isn't one of them, I doubt he ever will be, nor am I under any delusion that he has ever considered it, nor would he. That's perfectly OK with me.

I honestly hope that for his own good, he engages in a little introspection/reflection and starts placing more genuine appreciation for what he has (his family), as opposed to what "others" do not have. Even further, I hope he stops using his Wife and kid as pawns to rub other peoples noses in the "fact" that "my kid has had more life experience in one year of life than you sorry excuses for windowlickers have had in your entire, pathetic lives". Those kinds of statements don't hurt my feelings in the least, they simply cause me to flip the mental "Ignore" switch to the "On" position. Simple.

I can ignore without the use of a button...

I didn't catch a lot of what Larry posted, but what he did just didn't make any sense! Proper English and all that.

I know he doesn't like Sierra bullets though.

Haha, I jumped on the laptop Sunday morn, had notice someone had posted in a thread I was. And at the end of the post, there it was, "Hint".
I broke out laughing, did a search on his posts, I was hoping he was still be on board this am, no dice. He gets on a roll, John Belushi in Animal House shit, with malice, lmfao

First off YES YOU CAN!!! It is a choice to look at a thread and a second choice to respond. You prove my point about not being able to ignore.
Second I was talking about you ignoring Larry in previous threads not your own thread.
You are bordering on dumbass.

Just a heads up - you tagged that wrong Frank and the wrong Tucker.

I'm sure they are great people though.
