Re: Interesting Rare Find- What Do You Think?
I read this post and near its end realized that this 1950 M70 wasn't found any more than it was lost. No, this gem searched far and wide for a retirement from a life of undignified anonymity, inactivity, and downright pamper. Upon finding a berth amidst a M61 and a M12 It knew that it's search would unlikely yield a better prospect. However, this M70 hasn't decided whether or not to use its buyer, continue its coma, or be the centerfold in Guns & Ammo. If my master was this rifle, and, providing I met all the qualifications as set forth by it, I'd pine for all three. If given a chance game prefers being shot with nostalgic walnut-stocked, 4140 barreled, cone-breeched, claw extractored and mechanical ejectored rifles.
I have a 1942 (from pre-war parts) M70 in 270 and a M12 made in 1950 and they are used, but they were used before I acquired them. I guess I'd have to say that a M70 robbed of its function might be pretty, but suggests its owner needs some exercise; a M70 unused is abused and misused like an auto cherished and displayed, but never used, deteriorates to the point of inoperability; a heart, no longer functioning terminates the body it's in; and thus a warehoused M70 contributes nothing--not even to its family reputation.
But, just look at this beauty; to mark it up is "depraved indifference to M70 heritage." Ah yes, what I'd give for a conundrum like this!
