what your missing is the Chinese wont just play "hearts and minds" with this country and have limited rules of engagement, etc. They will dump 100k chinese troops in Iraq, and start wholesale eradication. So they lose 6-8k of their soldiers? they wont care, because they will have killed everyone in that country that is a male old enough to walk. Everyone else is in a prison camp, and then no more IEDs. They may call it West Chinastan. They wont care. but they will get the oil.

When we pulled out of Egypt in the 50s and 60s under Nasser the Soviets moved in. By the mid 1960s the Egyptians were so sick of the Russians and hated them so much they were begging to come back to us.

I pretty much feel that wherever the Russians or the Chinese go that isn't already a repressive dictatorship they will be hated, and certainly in most places that are too.
