Is data interchangeable for 178 AMAX and 178 BTHP?

I have the powder on hand and some left over AMAXs but I haven't received my BTHPs yet. I was wondering if powder charges are interchangeable between the two bullets? If so then I will go ahead a start working up with the left over AMAXs and use them as testing and save the BTHPs as the final product. Thanks...

Hard to say, sometimes it works and others it doesn't.

Never swapped between those two bullets so I dont have any personal insight to match exactly. I however did switch between 142 SMKs and 140 Hybrid, I left my charge the same tweaked seating depth and they shot lights out.

I'd bet Hornady's manual lumps them in to 1 catagory.
Knight said he went from smk's to Berger's, no issues. But I'd bet the berger had less bearing surface so it was ok.
In your case I'd bet the bthp has more bearing surface than the amax, so I'd work in to it.
Your deffinetly going to have a poi change, so I would just shoot the amax's and start from scratch.

I would say yes, at least from a safety/pressure point of view.

Sierra lumps their 150s/155s and 175s/180s, together, for example and doesn't bother placing those specific weights into their own
    categories.

The two bullets have drastically different ogive lengths and the BTHP's like to be loaded much longer than the Amax's. I did end up with the same charge of 44.5gr Varget in mine, but a COAL of ~2.9 with the BTHP's vs 2.81 on the Amax version.

If you have a factory internal box magazine be prepared to single load rounds with long seating depths to get the accuracy you were getting from the Amax.

The 2 bullets will definetly shoot different.
Different POI. Different grouping. Different pressure. Different velocity.

    Differnt bullet=Different load.

As long as you are not on the high end of safe pressure, I would not worry about interchanging these two bullets, but the load will not be optimal for both at the same time.

Okay, thanks for the input I guess I will just wait until they come in before doin any loading. I have shot the factory stuff, the standard pressure 178 BTHP and it shoots about 3/5 MOA right from my hand loads so I expect a shift I just didn't know if the powder charges were interchangeable...
