Gunsmithing Is DuraCoat worth it?

Hello,
I am considering applying duracoat to my rifle for both protection and physical appearance. Is this any better than getting normal spray paint? and which application kit is better to use (i.e. shake n' bake vs. shake n' spray kit). Thank you!

Duracoat is way better than just normal spray paint. I used the shake and spray to coat my 1911. After a year of daily carry in a leather IWB holster I only have worn it off the sharp edges, all other surfaces look as good as the day I coated it. It has held up better than I thought. So I think you're rifle would be just fine with some duracoat.

I have Duracoat on two rifles. Its a decent product. The only thing I dont like is most solvents will break it down.

The product I used had to be mixed and sprayed on, no bake

A good rule of thumb with duracoat is that the flatter the color is, the faster it will wear off. It may well be some of the more skilled applicators know a way around this. I don't.

I'm setup for cerakote but still use a lot of duracoat on my guns. My barrels don't last long enough to warrant putting a ten year finish on most of my stuff.

I spray alot of duracoat, and have yet to have any solvents to break it down. I normally beadblast the firearms before painting to give the paint a better surface to adhere to. 2 to 3 light coats is all you need. I painted my titanium suppressor with tactical flat dark earth and it is very flat. This is a sealed 22 can and has to be soaked in solvent to clean it. Its have several long soakings in Berryman Chem-Dip and is still going strong. Preparation is the key.
