Is the M1A a Good Rifle?

I have a Busa and a Harley Ultra both great bikes but when it came time to ride from Key West to Homer Alaska I rode the Harley. Love them both but my go to is the Harley.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. I have owned M1a's, and sold them for various reasons, but the rifle that just felt "right" to me was my Garand. there was something about the way it cycled and recoiled that made it feel like it was made for me.

I keep seeing this come up but isn't the design of the AR15 over 50 years old as well? 1957 design with adoption in 1964. Given the AR has more modernized mods but the design is the same.

The M14 and the Stoner Rifle were designed under different design guidelines. The M-14 was basically an evolved mag fed M1 as mandated by the government. The Stoner Rifle was a clean slate design. One should not wonder why they ended up in two different places with that as a backdrop.

True. It is just an evolved M1. Thanks.

If the sounds and recoil impulse really turn you on, get an M1a. Wouldn't trade mine in. It has always been and always will be an exceptional rifle in my collection.

They are nice. They are kind of hard to keep shooting well. That is the reason many service rifle shooters have gone to the AR. There were other reasons but that was one of the. It is also one of the reasons the USMC dumped them for designated riflemen program.

This isnt in the least bit true, KA was award a contract plain and simple. The DMR and then M39 came out due to urgent need contracts. The M14 is now being exchanged one for one due to a desire for Marines to field similiar functioning and looking rifles. The M39 proved to be extremely accurate and relaible, how do I know? a 2112 who worked for PWS is in one of Marines.

Yes they are great rifles. Mine in the Sage EBR chassis with all TRW parts inlcuding barrel is a solid less than MOA rifle with 175 SMK.
