Wanting to get into long range target shooting. I have a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in .308. Only thing I have done to it was add an H-S Precision stock and a badger bolt handle. I have only shot it at 100 yards and I get a little under .75moa with factory ammo.

My question is should I just buy a higher quality gun , say the Rem 5R and work up from there? or keep what I have and get the action blue-printed and eventually a longer and higher quality barrel. I would also like it to sit in an AICS stock too.

Thanks for advice.

What you have is a great starter, just spend money on ammo and shoot the hell out of it, practice practice practice. Shoot a lot at 100 yards then slowly move your target out. I would hold off on the AICS stock for now and maybe think about spending the money on a good scope first, what are you using for optics now?

You have a great rig. Yes anyone can say that you can spend a lot more money and get a better gun but you already have a great gun. Try to get into hand loading and with some practice at that you can easily get to .5 or smaller at 100 yards. I agree with E3C3H303 you need to bring the target out and practice further distance before you spend alot of money on something at kills the same at 100 yards.
