So I'm shooting a match this weekend at a range away from home ... where I don't believe I'll have the chance to re-zero my scope, and the range is about 2,000 feet in elevation "lower" than my range (Home Range = 4,400 ... Match Range = 2,600). Is there a "standard adjustment" in those types of situations? I'm assuming a more dense atmosphere will result in the need for an "Up" adjustment, so I'm wondering if anyone has a formula that works for this so I don't waste early shots. Anybody got some advice for me? Distances in the match aren't extreme (305, 415, 505, 600, and 705 yards) ... but I just don't have enough experience moving between ranges to know if this matters at those distances. Rifle is a Tikka T3x TAC A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor and bullet is Hornady 147gr ELD-M.

    Thanks!

easiest and most accurate way is to run your actual numbers through a ballistic calc and change the DA

rules of thumb are like ballistic turrets...they both suck

Your zero won’t change as long as you zeroed at 100. Do what @brianf said run a couple quick scenarios in a BC at the environment you plan on encountering and shoot.

If you are using Kestrel, go to Environment> set it to live and capture> then set back to lock and get your dope. If you are using a App, it should adjust to the nearest ping points weather and altitude. Anecdotally, I shot 147gr ELDM in two matches roughly 500- 600ft elevation difference and the adjustments at 600+yards were off by a 1/10th & insignificant in shorter distances. Temperature probably plays a bigger part though as you get down in elevation and probably it gets hotter.

Is it a “bullseye” match...groups at a small target, or a steel match with targets in excess of 1.5 MOA? For the latter, it probably won’t matter at all. Will it be “hot” down low (anywhere approaching 80 degrees)...meaning your DA will be closer to your home range anyway (however if you’ve been shooting at 80 degrees at 4000 ft, maybe not so much).
