What I lost post counts? When did this happen

With my Ambassadorship, a nice blue color change for my name works.
Also, with the title, will I have banning priveliges if someone decides to question me in public? In a pm would be ok, but not on the forum.

Seriously it is not hard to get to 100. It does not take that long. I joined because I had a scope to sell. I sold it locally way before I got to 100. Turns out this site is way better than many others. At least most here are thick-skinned. Well let me say are normal persons. Anyone who also visits accurate shooter wow they are very sensitive about everything. You should see them come unglued when you call their bench rifles sniper rifles.

Lowlight, what is the percentage of people that are members SN that sell stuff on the board? I haven't ever sold anything, and I'll bet the vast majority haven't ever sold anything, even though they may have a high post count-your requirement is so reasonable that anyone finding it a burden, should tote their stuff off to the nearest gun show-but wait, they may have to pay a couple of bucks to get in!

As a low post count lowlife, I'd just like to say I came on here looking for opinions from people who have tried things I am interested in. Also I could give two shits about having to have 100 post to sell anything, theres outlets for that all over the internet. I think you should have to have quality posts to count towards the accumulation of post counts and garbage posts(which I'm sure I've had a few) let you look at naked chicks in the photo section. It's the same here as on any other forum I've been on, some are here to help and share knowledge some just want to show you how hot theit ex girl from 20 years ago was. I accept that having a low post count makes you think I'm a noob, but what do I give a shit, if I want to impress someone I'll go to the titty bar where the girls really love me for my personality.
Badger, it's not only about post count, it's about the quality of the posts. There are plenty of people here, like Cowboy Bravo, j-huskey, 1smalljohnson and Sinister who are credible, have knowledge, vast amounts of experience in their chosen professions, and have been here on this Site a long time. They don't post much, but when they do they contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the membership here.
The problem we are currently having is with the recent influx of morons who post crap and then get bent when their foolishness is exposed. Heck, just today I had a guy with no knowledge or experience on the subject first lecture me about how the legal system works, then waste bandwidth by posting for the sole purpose of calling me an ass and tell me to shut the fuck up. The issue is not that he has only 600-ish posts, it's that he has 600-ish foolish, ignorant and sometimes raving posts that contibute nothing to the membership here.
And worse, these idiots arguing with people who know better has driven away some of the the best of our membership. We lost Boothby because morons wouldn't stop telling him about sniping and the Marine Corps. Then we lost Lindy, probably because he got tired of repeating himself. There have been others, but you get my point.

There is a concept of whats called Confirmation bias. It means that people want to hear what they want to believe. Not what is true or correct. Thats what your fighting against.

The number of people that join this site and start posting without taking the time to get a feel for the place amazes me. I rummaged through The Hide Scrolls for many, many hours before joining. Everything a newb needs to know to get along well here is buried in those pages.
Here is the problem with complaining about the same question over and over... all of this is cyclic.
We prune posts, we shuffle members, we bury posts, so it is not surprising and it should be expected to be asked the same question again and again.
This place is based on the exchange of information, trying to pick a winner or loser in that exchange is an uphill battle. So it's best to just answer it or move along. Part of the thing that made so many of the "older" or original members so much better than a lot of the current members is that very philosophy. They answered and didn't complain about it. They used to use keep text files with the answers and they would simply copy and paste the answer in.
it wasn't until some of the current members started complaining about the same question did it start to be looked down on. You know the same questions is gonna be asked over and over, that is how forums work, so why shun the person who asks the question. Clearly they don't know and while, "yes they could have searched" many don't know the right way to search or feel asking is part of the interaction. They are looking for liked minded souls and not cyberbullies who push them aside for asking the same very question they may have asked to start with.
I have even seen people say, they asked the same question and were pointed in the right direction. Maybe not answered 100% but close, certainly you weren't shined off you stayed. So why shine others off.
This is part of the not downfall, when you are not willing to extend the courtesy to others, especially new members. It's one thing when a member with 500 posts asks where his post count went, he has been here and should know where to look. But a 1 post wonder asking where to find load data for a 700 SPS may not be so evident. Even saying, "hey man, try browsing the reloading section" is better than being a dick or not helping.
The questions are always gonna be asked, if you feel you can't answer or are sick of answering, walk away and say nothing, but helping is what makes a community stronger.

Thank you Lowlight, for this thoughtful and correct depiction of what occurs on forums everywhere and on every topic. I was thinking along these same general lines as I drove home from work. Having been a member on many forums, this very subject has come up before, of course. As you said, it's best to provide some information to get the new folks started along on their quest for good information. A cut and paste, a standardized answer, or my personal favorite, a link to a recent of particularly pertinent thread that helps them along in their search for information.
Plus, as much as it hurts for some of the most knowledgeable to hear this, times change and so does technique, technology, favored practice, current knowledge, and even general opinion (sometimes). Therefore, the best answer thread of yesterday or yesteryear might no longer be the best answer anymore. It's possible and does occur.
And remember that many people come to a forum to just commune (no, I don't mean kumbaya and bongo drums in an abandoned chicken coop) and be part of something bigger that they share a common interest in. That's why I'm here. And yes, I'm a total newb to the long range shooting sport and community. Sure, I've shot many firearms all my life and (used to) consider myself a fair rifle shot. Then I got an urge to shoot farther and find more accurate rifles. So I ended up here after searching around and am damn glad I did. This is a hella bunch of great guys and a heaping helping of the usual suspects. I wouldn't have it any other way.
So anyway, thanks and keep up the great work...everyone.

Thank you, Lowlight, for accurately depicting some of us new guys. I learned a lot from looking and reading before I started asking questions. Thanks very much for reminding the older members to gently give us links to previously asked topics rather than flame us for asking the questions. I have learned many things from the linked topics here.
I would also ask folks like Graham to quit acting like know it alls, and be open to a newer member actually having valid information to add. Graham, you cite me in your post, saying that I am a "moron who posts crap, and and then get bent when their foolishness is exposed. First of all, I don't give a damn about post counts. I am not asking Lowlight to adjust mine, I don't even know if I lost some in the change. I am simply commenting on threads that mean something to me, or trying to address a question if I can. If you bothered to read my posts, I am always open to constructive criticism, and trying to learn. In fact, I have received some PM's in which people who have more posts than I have said they like my posts because I don't take myself too seriously. I have also asked others with more experience to confirm or deny my thoughts.
You, on the other hand, belittle those of us that don't agree with your thoughts, and then try to discredit us, by saying we add nothing to the discussion, and intimate that we are only trying to add post count. That is very rich from one who has over 10 times as many posts, and who makes a point to answer every post that dis-agrees with your posts in a demeaning way. I submit humbly that other's points of view are what a forum is about, and that you have no business being as rude and abrasive as you are when you happen to disagree with another poster.

You needn't assume that we are criminals because one of us may have been arrested wrongly any understand the "criminal" justice system from the other side. In fact, all the records from my arrest are ordered by the court to be destroyed, as the record is expunged. You needn't assume that we have no value to the forum, and are just trying to get posts---In fact, Lowlight, could I be unreasonable and ask you to diminish my post count(I know you can't, but I couldn't care less if you did). I have nothing to gain by post count. I am honestly trying to contribute to threads that peak my interest, and to learn from any source I can. Forgive me if I have a different opinion, but I don't need to be beaten up for it, nor hounded for it, nor called a moron for it. Your arrogant opinions on things are many times nothing more than that, graham, Arrogant Opinions. And I should know, as I have Arrogant Opinions, and call them that myself.

To someone who doesn't live on this site religiously, why would they be expected to know about the site change and how many times that particular question had been asked. It's obvious there was a site change but for the occasional visiting member they may not know, hence why he asked the question. IMHO it was poor taste to respond the way LL did. Yeah he's the owner, yeah there's such thing as free speech, yeah it's not illegal to be an asshole but I've seen ALOT of little man syndrome on here lately, no pun intended LL the place seems to be turning into Ar15.com and that's unfortunate because this is the best gun site on the web.

That's too damn funny. Not to long ago I started a thread here and the whiners and criers came out full force. I had to rename the thread "The Whiners and Criers Club thread" and add in a utube of a baby laying on the ground kicking and crying. It was like giving them a pacifier, they all shut up and went to sleep after that.

As a newbie to the site I have no issues with the policy of 100 posts. It's a sound policy to ensure people are truly "members of the community" before they are allowed to financially benefit from the community. I have items I'd love to sell but will obviously need to hold off trying to sell here until I participate more fully in the community. Thus, the policy encourages participation.
Also, as a buyer of a number of items that have been for sale here I tell you I trust the post count here more than I would the feedback scores on ebay or GB. If someone has spent enough time here in the community to have 1000's of posts they've built a reputation that they will desire to protect. That provides significantly more comfort to me than an easily manipulated number on ebay or GB.
To me whiners about the policy exhibit a level of entitlement normally reserved for the EBT crowd....
