Well, finally, after much hard work, I have a 308. I bought a Remington 700 SPS Varmint. I have a SS10x on my 22, which will be going onto the 308. I am very happy right now.

Going to use SWFA Low rings, a Weaver 20moa pic. base, and put it in a b&c a3...

More to come...

Re: New Rifle!

I happen to have an extra DD Ross tactical bolt knob if you want it. You could have it installed when you get your new stock bedded?

Up to you. Just have it sitting here, it needs a good home.

That would be nice. Thanks Adam.

Looks like the OP agrees with you...

A B&C is a good choice. I think you're off to a great start. I hope you enjoy the sport... Not too much though. I'd hate to see you pour all of your savings into it... like someone else I know...

It's going to be a fun summer shooting this. I have some places to stretch it's legs...

Re: New Rifle!

Ok, rings, scope, scope base, bolt knob, bipod, stock pack and rifle are covered... Last piece of the puzzle is a stock... I get paid in 2 weeks, so I think I'll need to get a stock then

*UPDATE* Re: New Rifle! -

Got an email form Buds Today, my rifle has been shipped. I'm hoping for it by the end of the week. The scope base is coming, was shipped today.... I'm getting even more excited.

How much you want to spend on a stock?

Re: New Rifle!

shay,
This probably will not be in time for your build as I have about 2 months to wait for my manners stock but i'll be selling my B&C light tactical that has been bedded, textured, and painted in Alumihyde FDE for $200 or less in the near future. Let me know if it fits the bill if you are still in need down the road.

That will fit the bill perfectly! I'll let y know once I get the funds. Could you PM me a pic?

Re: New Rifle!

This is why I love The Hide. New shooter like myself, asks intelligent questions, gets intelligent answers. Picks a set up and gets tons of help. Congrats Shay, I made a similar choice, got the AAC. Every bit of my rifle has come from this site's influence. Good luck with yours, know there are those of us in the same boat and taking the same steps.

Re: New Rifle!

2 days and the rifle will be here, and Dad and I will be going to pick it up on Friday. Going to mount up the scope this weekend hopefully... so close....

Re: New Rifle!

Great starter platform, congratulations!

I have the 20" SPS in a B&C, and as long as I do my part, it shoots less than 1/2 MOA at 100 yards easily with hand loads. I've had it for a couple years now & just finished removing the Falcon Menace 4-14 it had been wearing & installed a Nightforce 5.5-22X50. Crazy to think that an optic can cost 3X as much as the rifle it's riding on...lol.

Anyway, I'd also suggest upgrading the trigger when you get the funds. I put an older 700 trigger on mine that had been tuned and set to roughly 2 lbs, and that helped my groups shrink considerably.

Re: New Rifle!

I used a stock old remington trigger, was too hard of a pull. Then I got a jewell, was very nice and crisp, but didn't feel that it was worth $200. Sold my jewell and sent my old trigger into Straight Shot Gunsmithing (site sponsor) and love the work he did for $35. Breaks super crisp at around 2lbs.

Also talk to Nate (Straight Shot Gunsmithing) He was talking to me about why he likes certain triggers over other. He's very friendly and works late normally. Does great ND work too lol.

Re: New Rifle!

Well, dad said that we're going to get the rifle today! Today is gonna be a long day.

So I could send the x-mark off and have it worked on? That's handy, since it costs less than getting a new trigger.

Re: New Rifle!

Well, today was disappointing. My rifle was delivered, but the gun shop was closed. It is Open Mon-Sat 9-5, but it wont be open today or tomorrow.

Looks like Saturday at the earliest...

Good news though, this came today!

All I need is a retaining pin for the forward assist, a Primary Arms Micro Red dot sight, and a rear sight.
