Rifle Scopes Jackass bent my NXS

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

Couple of years back, I purchased a gap .308 built on a Remington 700
The seller shipped the rifle in a cheap hard case with the Nightforce scope mounted and the bolt pulled from action

Well when the rifle came in the bolt had hit the front objective lens and cracked it.

Scope was sent back to nightforce and repaired for shipping costs

This was around 2004, I was very pleased to say the least

there warrenty is unreal

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

That really sucks. What do some people think? I can just mess with stuff that is not mine. I stopped hunting with my family because one of them brings a kid with who has no sense of right or wrong. “I am sorry” fixes all in his mind. Yup you have a round in the wall and hearing loss but he is sorry so it is ok. Thank god I was not hit or anyone else. Thankfully he was not able to get into my case. Yes I did leave and drove home.

I hope you find out who did that. Then make it suck for them. For the record scribing bumass on a wood stock is always classic.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

I have a similar issue with my NXS, my shooting buddy took all the rifel's into the house whilst I dealt with the deer.

I took my rifle out of the slip to find the sunshade dinged and now cross threaded. I can't get the damn thing off.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

Lot's of firearms mishaps being reported here...just to pick on a couple of you guys...

Well...you didn't lock it up, and who knows who messed with it.

In some states if a child gains access to an unlocked firearm, the owner of the unlocked firearm is responsible and charged with a felony...one way or another, that lessens the chances of a repeat occurrence of the problem.

There are safety rules for anyone who brings a weapon into my house, or anywhere around me for that matter, and whoever doesn't follow those rules ends up with a harsh reminder.

NO ONE touches any of my firearms without my supervision, and one reason is because they are not able to...they are either in my possession or locked up somewhere. If there is no place available to safely leave them, they are slung or otherwise on my person. That's not a casual matter to me, and I don't leave it to chance.

If basic firearms safety rules are followed, many of these incidents wouldn't have happened in the first place.

Hell it's Thanksgiving...at least we can be thankful nothing worse happened!

She killed a deer. I unloaded my gun, put it back in it's case and got the doe. Before I even cleaned the deer I got my rifle, rubbed down the outside metal and put it in it's case. I then put the weapon back in our lodge where I keep all my rifles and went about my business. The next morning I got out the rifle and it was damaged (the NF). I did not have any intention of anyone drinking this "24 pack of brew" (which is blowing it way out of proportion) I had 3 beers... even looking at that gun. It really irks me that so many people are so quick to judge. I saved for 2 damn years to get that setup. You think I would just leave out a $5000 gun for every Tom Dick and Harry to mess around with... Hell no. Somebody went in my case got out the gun bc it looked cool and dropped it. So no I don't know who it was, yes we got some meat. People blaming me is like letting someone who kicks in your front door, robs you, then leaves just walk and blaming the owner because he should of had a reenforced door.

Is it your camp? If it were mine, everyone up there would no longer be invited until either someone comes clean about doing it, or someone rats the culprit out. I have no room in my life for deceptive friends, liars or those who would cover for another friend who made an expensive mistake. I highly doubt it was one individual who walked over and decided to finger fuck your rifle- had to be two or more... thus you likely have at least one culprit and one witness... both very shitty friends

If NF won't fix it for free, just rock it as is. Sun shades aren't that important; drive on. A dinged up NF that won't take a sun shade is still better than a lupy M1, M2, M3 or many of the offerings from vortex. The only people who would consider it a significant problem are the ones who don't really USE their equipment

Good luck!

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

I dropped my USO and it dinged the bell up to the point where you had to kinda pry the sunshade under it and then thread it on. It never bothered me enough to worry about it at all. I did sell it later and the guy who bought did get a good deal and didn't mind it at all either for the price he paid.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

A friend dropped his rifle 20ft(yeh,20feet) out of a deer stand. He said it must have hit every single step.Made him sick.It knocked a big burr on both the eye piece and on the end of the sunshade.Nf wanted $200 to fix it,so he sold it to me.We filed the burr off the eye piece, like you would an airplane prop, and he turned the sunshade in the lathe to fit a plastic cap.It still tracks perfectly, and it will make my next mishap easier to deal with.
Still sucks, that a 'friend' would do this and not confess. Happy Thankgiving, Pete

ugh. That sucks.

Sorry to hear that man.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

Hindsight is always 20/20....you shoulda, coulda, but bad things sometimes happen to good people, no matter how you prepare. You could have carried that rifle by your side 24/7 and still have something happen. It sucks, I know! I had a doucher shove one of my precision rifles in a corner and damaged the rifling at the muzzle.....yep I was pretty pissed.
It sucks, but you will get over it eventually....don't let it cause problems between you and your wife.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

As long as it tracks, and doesn't affect the functionality of the scope, I'd just rock on. It NF won't fix it for free (which they're in no way obligated to do) I would only pursue it if you wanted to run a sunshade or something, and it won't thread. I imagine that won't be a cheap repair.

Re: Jackass bent my NXS

I say get it fixed...you obviously care about your equipment like I tend to do.

I just lost an in-tank fuel pump in my Firebird.

It's gonna cost me over 6 bills unless I take the time to drop the rear end myself.

There's no warranty on it.

Life happens.
