JP 224V upper VS Larue 224V upper

Im pretty sure I know the answer to this, I have seen lowlights videos on youtube, crunching the numbers just in parts a JP upper would be around $1400 self built, where a Larue build kit would be $1000 with a purchased lower, any reviews on the Larue 224V 20" barrel accuracy, has it been pushed past 1300 yards like the JP, any feed back would be great

Also take a look a DTech. They built me a 24" last spring that is a freeking hammer with 90 and 95 SMKs. I've had it out to 1015yds.
They use 6.5 twist Shilen barrels. Mine came in around $1100 with a bolt and carrier.
I was impressed with thier work.

I haven't seen one accurate barrel come out of the Larue shop since he started making his own. Everything that comes with the UU kits seems to be quality besides the barrels. Seems like it takes a lot of work just to get them to hold 1 MOA consistently.

Thanks Jake, well thats disappointing, and what I expected I have searched havent found a single review on their 224V barrel, not a single video or even a target on the net, their kits are such a good deal but having to spend another $500 on a barrel kills it for me, I want all the parts from the same builder, JP it is then

I kind of doubt that all parts in a JP rifle are built in house by JP.

JP certainly knows how to make sure everything works together but AR15s are so well worked out that if you do it right you can piece together an AR with JP like performance at a Larue kind of price.

JP also gives discounts to Active duty military, veterans and First responders.
That's why I fully support and will continue to buy JP and Vortex products. Larue doesn't do shit for its customers unless maybe you're Marcus luttrell.

Craddock Precision would be a good option. Pricing for complete upper is between JP and Larue prices.

Mine is averaging 3/4 MOA with factory Hornady 88’s.

Jake you have a point, the first responder pricing will definitely make it a easy choice, they did take care of me last time , I forget they offer it, plus Im already sitting on a new complete low mass carrier group and silent capture I will just sell the bolt, and their products are always pristine and well machined, there is a reason krieger also headspaces their barrels to JP bolts

are you are saying that all bolts are alike? Im not following you, to say all manufacturers follow these strict tolerances I cant agree with that statement, I wouldnt put a mass produced bolt in a precision rifle

I'm saying, tell them to head space the barrel to drawing, measure your bolt at home.
If you ever have to replace a bolt, what do you do?
Send the barrel back in to have it headspaced to the new bolt?

Yep, all of my large frame AR bolts have identical bolt face to rear of lug distance including a JP.

My 6.8 SPC LWRC and AR15Performance super bolts match.

I haven't measured all of my 5.56 bolts but those I have are matching.

With CNC machining and production QC techniques, companies spit out bolts that vary in the 0.0001" range which is very much interchangeable (ignoring the development of wear patterns and parts mating up).

I’d pass on LaRue barrels. These were the best groups I could get from mine before I sold it. I can usually drive a gas gun to sub half moa if the rig is capable, so I don’t feel that the results are due to the trigger puller in this instance.

I have seen some ppl get average groups that were in the 3/4moa range with handloads, but I would view them as the exception and not the norm.

I’ve got a 22” 1:6.5 twist WOA and a 24” 1:7.5 twist RA that I hope to test over the weekend.

Initial testing of the WOA showed some promise with the 95smk’s, but the velocity was a bit low. The best groups were at 2533-2560fps and I was hoping to hit 2630-2650fps.

I’m using RL17 with the 95 SMKs and getting 2649fps out of my 24”.
So far mine likes Winchester 760 and RE17 the best with 90s and 95s
2750fps with 90s..

I'm a big fan of the JP's. Accuracy and reliability right out of the box. The small improvements like the +2 gas, adjustable gas block, thermal dissipator and LMOS BCG really make a big difference as a system. I'll admit to having a good bit of bias though.

JP 100% every barrel shoots under 3/4", most under 1/2" in AR15 platform. Just make sure to thermo fit or loctite depending on clearance.

Larue can vary. Have a friend that got lucky on his 308. When I shoot it at 100 yards multiple 3 shot groups are an oval with factory Blackhills Accubond, his elk ammo. Most barrels are closer to an inch though.

I have a LaRue 20 inch and it shoots well. I have 3 JP barrlers and at the time of the 224V, they had to redo barrels and wouldnt have any for sale till Jan/Feb, so I went with the LaRue.

I've found some great hand loads for it and it shoots well. That being said, I'm sure if I find a good deal/sale on a JP 224V barrel I'll prob pick it up. I just dont want 1 of those +1 gas tube versions.

that was another reason I was hesitant, I was told the kit gets delivered on a 6 weeks then another 6 for the lower not sure how much truth there is to that though

I have not shot the JP yet but I certainly hear great things about them. The most accurate AR-10 semi I had was a 12 year old ARMALITE Ar-10 that shot constant.5 groups or better. Had their old heavy stainless barrel...like a fool I sold it...I also have a NOVESKE that shoots lmost as well... Ilon Combats have a nicer finish but I don’t know they are any more accurate...still JP seems where it’s at in the consistency department.with any caliber..I’m jealous of the guys I see with them on here...I agree on the comments on Larue..owned a couple and nothing to write home about...liked the predator because it is so light....the only question to me about JP is theirspecs are so specialized I could only see it as a range gun...not for shooting commies...
