Although I do not know the dog personally, I do know the lady that has him. She's only fostering the dog and I do not know the circumstances of his situation. Also, she would be willing to deliver the dog to a distance within reason.
My understanding is he is good with other dogs and children.

Catahoulas are fantastic dogs. They are good with kids, and are actually very good dogs for hunting and herding too.

They really do have the herding down to almost an instinct.

Several years ago my wife got a CATAHOULA out of the pound. Looked scarey, but turned out to be an excellent dog.

As mentioned, it was great with kids and other dogs. I think it might have been a good watch dog. Anytime someone it didn't know came over, it would stay between what he considered a stranger and the wife. Never offered to attack but I have a feeling it would if wife was threatned.

It would also go out in the yard with the grand kids and just watch them.

We had three other dogs at the time. The CATAHOULA seemed to think it was his job as a peace maker. It would always step in if they seemed to be playing too ruff. Though it never hurt the other dogs.

Now the down side. They hate goats. or at least ours. (not that that was a down side, I hate them too). Ours would kill every goat it could get a hold of. No problem with any other animals, including chickens, it just didn't like goats.

We had to put ours down because of age and it got where it couldnt even move its hind legs.

They are great dogs, but I just have too many dogs in the house now or I'd jump on it.
