Don't know a whole lot about these but got a Russin 91/30 made in 36 from Dunhams. Its in real good condition and am curious about one thing. All the exposed metal on the gun orther than the receiever, butt plate, and trigger are gold in color. The eyelets for the sling, the end of the forestock, and where the received and the stock meet near the irons are gold. None of the others where like this. Is there any significance to this?

Its brass, some of them have wax paper and cosmo covering them. Remember the 91/30 were made by the millions, and all of the parts are interchangeable, so you can have a rifle made up from several other rifles. Up till WWII the stock was standard with the eyelet type sling holes (the brass one with two tiny brass screws), during the war they went to a straight, no nonsense, hole.

Here is a good website with everything you ever wanted to know about the Mosin. 7.62x54r.net
