Hi folks, I am fairly new to the forum.I am puting togeather a rifle to do long range local shoots and to have fun with. I am at the point of scope purchase and would appreciate some help with a choice. I only have experience with the Vortex HS and Bushnell Tactical Elite high end. I do not want either so have it narrowed to the Kahles K624i 6-24x56 or the Nightforce ATACR. I have no experience with either but have read much from you guys. I plan to move this scope back and forth between a 308 and 223 bolt build. Shoot out to 1000 but mostly between 300 to 800. I know one is a f1 but I will know my distances so I am not sure that is a issue. Thanks for any input.

If you don't need the magnification, then the 3.5-15x f1 would serve you well. I have 2 of them (.308 and 300 win mag). 25x seems like a lot for a .223. If you do need the magnification, then the BEAST and the Kahles are a better comparison. The ATACR is great for a sfp scope, especially if you will always be shooting at 25x

Should you buy a Corvette or a chevy impalla?

Two totaly different scopes for different purposes.

Your better off getting two $1500 scopes (such ass the HDMR) than one $3k Khales. switching optics between rifles is for the birds. Its not worth the hassle and you will be constantly rezeroing and wasting ammo.

I'll always take the FFP unless said scope is a POS. The kahles seem to be solid though from reports but I haven't used one so can't personally really recommend one. The ATACR is a solid scope and NF's reliability is top notch but it's a SFP scope.

My money would go to the kahles between the two and I would feel comfortable spending my money on it based off the feedback I've heard. However I'd still rather have a NF F1 or a Beast.

I tested the glass in the Nightforce Beast, S&B, and Kahles. I also had 2 other guys look through the glass as well and all of us found it had to tell if one saw better than the rest. I will say the Kahles and Nightforce BEAST do not give up any in clarity, resolution, and brightness to the S&B. We tested the glass at the 1,000yd line at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. Someone would be hard pressed to say if one was had better than the others. Again I will say I’m impressed with color, contrast, and resolution in them all.

Setwork , This topic is brings to mind the saying that ' opinions are like backsides ' in that everyone has one ! Trust me , you will not see anymore with either scope than you will with the other , it's a nonsense . Pick the scope on their features , internal adjustment , adjustment value , FFP or SFP , reticle choice etc to suit your needs .
