Advanced Marksmanship Kestrel Use Question

If I hold my Kestrel perpendicular to my gun-target line, in other words with the fan 90 degrees to the gun-target line, will it give me an accurate wind value and reading? This would be as opposed to holding the kestrel directly into the wind then using clock positions to calculate my wind value.

Hold it directly into the wind and get your reading, then turn it where you want and see what happens. You will have your answer and not have to take someone's word for it.

You might have to experiment to see if the Kestrel with measure the 90 degree component. My gut feeling is it won't be correct.
