That random flyer will cost you points in a match. You get what you pay for. These are my go to ammo choices for my T1x. In my gun they shoot to roughly same zero and I used to get 4:1 cost advantage for CCI to Center-X for practice vs match ammo.
My un-scientific testing showed that the CCI shot really well except for a random flier that sounded quite different. It’s really obvious shooting groups at 100y and that round goes way low.
Really rather ridiculous comparing these two brands of ammo! CCI anything falls into my crap ammo class while Lapua center X is some of the best match grade ammo being produced today. Let me put it another way. If everyone else shot CCI SV and I shot CenterX. I would be a world class remfire shooter. Which I am NOT!I’m thinking I got lucky with CCI or not so much with Lapua Center X

It was a test that measured one value, velocity. I expected less that 10 fps standard deviation and less that 50 fps for an extreme spread on the center x.Really rather ridiculous comparing these two brands of ammo! Ageeed. I’m going to just roll the dice on the next lot of 5-10k I can get and hope for the best.Have had bad MV variations in my CX lots aswell. Really sucks to lose the cartridge lottery. Just hope the next lot is better.
Not 100% sure I'd roll the dice on 10K of one lot. I just got forced into this situation, asked for 2 separate lots of Center X and wasn't informed till I opened one case with a note saying one lot was all they had.Ageeed. I’m more selective than that (read cheap)Every lot of ammo I've seen for sale has been for retail price. There will always be someone who will buy it. He'll I've even seen center x selling for 15 or 16 a box lmao
Right now, since our UPS hub has closed its shipping office, if I as an individual can even ship ammo out of this town. More added expense. I don't buy a lot of used- or in this case unused ammo, but if I see an ad with +shipping, I most likely bypass it.Every lot of ammo I've seen for sale has been for retail price. As more shoot this stuff, the more complaints arise. 4 buck ammo is 4 buck ammo, the QC on this stuff may be higher than SV, but the excessive lube seems to lead to some disappointing outings.Norma T22 is where it's at
No cherry picking here is Center X.If you intend to compare rimfire ammunition,
results when shooting for score will provide more useful information.
A chronograph will explain vertical spread, the score
will indicate the actual quality of the cartridges and the care taken in manufacture.
CCI does not manufacture precision rimfire ammunition.
All of it is bulk hunting and plinking ammo.
CenterX is made on the same line as Lapua's best,
but was downgraded according to the samples tested.
The true test of ammunition quality is when you can hit where you intended.
CCI products show an undesired amount of strays.
Try 50 shots for score with CCI, then with CenterX,
that would be the method to draw a useful conclusion from.
Which brand puts more shots on center?
Which spits wilder strays?
Work not shown @ 100 yards those 2 targets were @ 50 yardsI'm thinking that both those targets at 100yds is not bad shooting with the temp at 32*F. I don't usually waste any of my SK Rifle Match or Lapua Center-X on days when the temp is below 50*F, because that's what it is - a waste, compared to shooting in warmer temps. There's a few bricks of Lapua Polar Biathlon down in the basement that I can shoot in colder temps - if I've really got the hots to be out shooting when it's cold...
Maybe my wording could have been better. Both targets were @ 50 Yards. In between I dialed for 100 Yards for a grouping… trust me no picture needed, it wasn’t pretty.Okay your post said it was 100 yards. That's not very good at 50. If you're getting 2moa at 50, I wouldn't bother with trying expensive ammo. What rifle?
Truth told, I'm still shooting T22 that is 5+yrs old. Supposedly, that was a better batch. I don't have any experience with current production Norma. As more shoot this stuff, the more complaints arise. 4 buck ammo is 4 buck ammo, the QC on this stuff may be higher than SV, but the excessive lube seems to lead to some disappointing outings.
As with SV, this stuff does fine in certain chambers, hassles in others.
No cherry picking here is Center X.
I’ll do another (2) USBR targets again this Monday at 50 yards in similar weather to that of which I shot the center x.
The sighters I used for 5 shot groups.
1st target was cold gun / cold shooter. Second was both those things colder after work at 100 yards.View attachment 8002355View attachment 8002356
We've got this backwards. We need to be buying rifles and testing them against the ammo!Be cheaper to buy more rifles than to try sell with loss, shipping, etc....
I believe the proper intro prior to not to be an asshole but, is “with all due respect” per talladega nightsSo not to be an asshole but that is horrible, when I am just messing around with garbage cci so I am more consistent than that. What are you shooting off? Bags? Bipod?
Again not to be a jerk but do you know how to shoot properly? I see the USMC name but honestly the military doesn’t do a great job of teaching precision shooting.
If you are shooting off a solid foundation and using proper fundamentals then maybe you gun or optic are junk because at 50 meters you should be at worst on the 8 ring with any of the premium 22 ammo like lapua

No hurt feelings here
Shooting was done off a bipod and rear bag.
Optic is a Viper Gen II Viper 5-25 (this is a budget build)
So far the cz457 hasn’t wowed me. It’s also been some pretty cold temps with only one type of ammo, center x.
As others have mentioned maybe it just hates center x or maybe center x hates the cold. We shall see.
Good to know. I’ve got (3) boxes from (2) different lots of that. Also have a couple hundred rounds from Eley Tenex, SK Rifle Long Range, some Biathalon and a few others. Hoping one will work out and I don’t have a dud. Results with my 457 and Center-X didn’t wow me either, especially given the cost and availability of the ammo. SK Rifle Match is the way.
My Toyota needs 93 octane gas. But it's supercharged, so...My friend's 457 varmint absolutely hates center-x. I would just try different ammo to see. Though ultimately it might be like feeding a Toyota 93 octane gas. The varmint doesn't have a match chamber.

Yeh his CZ 457 Varmint needs like a Lilja barrel![]()
