Larue PredatOBR 260?

I have one and like it. A bit softer recoil than my tOBR in 7.62 and reaches out easily. I've been shooting Prime, Hornady and FGMM with no issues. Anything specific you need to know?

Shooting on the 1,000 yard line:

I currently have one on order, it will be a while yet before I get it. I believe Larue mags will allow longer coal than most other ar10 mags. I would have went with a 6.5c but I like to consolidate my calibers for reloading. I have a Tikka ctr 260 currently so I figure the Larue will complement it well when I get the itch to shoot distance with a gas gun, or get bored with the bolt gun.

KAC and Larue mags load to 2.872... My 260's need coals at 2.89-2.91 for 140 Hybrids and 140 ELD-M. Same bullets in 6.5cm only needed coals of 2.835-2.855..

Dont get me wrong, LOVE my 260 custom bolt gun but didnt go 260rem in AR10 for these very reasons. Lighter bullets like 123L and 123 ELD will be fine.

The factory 130gr Prime (Norma Golden Target), 130gr Hornady (ELD-M) and 142gr FGMM (SMK) are performing well in my LaRue. I'm going to try some of the Gorilla .260 which loads the Berger hybrid, albeit with a COAL under 2.800 for functioning in a variety of gassers, and if the cost comes down I may try the ABM. I understand the COAL in the 260 vs the 6.5 and the neck length that favors the 6.5 (from a tension standpoint), but I went with a .260 as the cartridge has the same shoulder angle as the .308, which could make it more reliable in a gasser, and because it was offered by a reliable company who stands by their products. In full disclosure, I'm a LaRue fan and own a number of their rifles.

Happy with the rifle? Shoot as well as you were hoping/happy with accuracy? Any issues you've had? Thanks in advance!

I am very happy with the rifle. It’s built off the 7.62 tOBR platform with the same parts, except the barrel. I choose the 22” version that has a +2 gas system so port pressures are a bit lower. It uses LaRue’s PST gas selector having an unsuppressed and suppressed setting and I’ve fired the rifle both suppressed and unsuppressed with no issues. It took a bit for the accuracy to come in but I think that was more me not being behind a rifle for months. It came with a 0.8MOA test target and I was getting sub MOA groups, but I’ve improved to where I’m shooting 0.5 to 0.75 MOA easily. I took it to 600 yards and was shooting 1.5MOA, but that was me being giddy for finally being at a range longer than 100 yards in some years. I shot steel at the same range and measured groups at about 0.8 MOA at 600, so the rifle, and the factory ammo, can perform.

I had one issue and it was operator induced. The temps on the day I was shooting 600/1000 were in the low 90s. I left the ammo in direct sunlight to the point where it heated, probably to over 120-125 degrees. I fired a round and had a blown primer due to the temperature induced over-pressure. The rifle and bolt are fine and the lesson was I should have been paying better attention to the environmentals as even though today’s powder is temp stable, the powder still reacts and could create an over-pressure situation (most factory stuff is loaded for bolt guns in mind).

Anyways, I’m very satisfied with the rifle and its performance and think I can squeeze out some more by handloading.

I wish LaRue would start selling the 260 PredatOBR barrels. I would really like to have a 308 and 260 barrel without having to buy a second rifle.

They will be sooner rather than later, that I'm fairly sure of given the offer they sent to those of us with the FDE rifles. If you watch out for a few sales I'm sure that you will see a few pop up here and there as a number of the FDE buyers bought multiples.

I'd think if you sent in a 'shot out' Larue 260 barrel they'd take good care of you.
Defender who posted above checked his throat erosion after 2000ish rounds. IIRC it was around .001.
My 260 is a laser beam :)
