Are the new Hi-Lux Leatherwood scopes any good??
There is one for sale about 70 miles away and I don't want to drive to see it if they are crap. It is the 3-9x40 L ART with Camputer. He wants $250 NIB

Re: Leatherwood scopes

I've got one of the M1000 ART scopes for my M1A, and haven't had a chance to go shooting with it yet, but so far the quality seems satisfactory. It's not going to be competitive with scopes costing 3 times as much, of course. There certainly IS a learning curve with setting it up, though.

THIS!!!

If you want to blow $250...by all means, but they are gimmicky, cheap, Chinese scopes that are plagued with poor quality control and the glass is marginal at best.

My buddy bought one of their CamPuter 6-20x44 (or something), super dohickey jobbers against my advise and it worked well for him on his 20" Bushy AR.

One day, after getting a new Savage 110 in 300 WM, he switched it over. The scope made it to the seventh round when he blew out the reticle.

This isn't an unheard of thing, for lessor scopes, but it was the customer service that was the problem.

It was under warranty and he bought from SWFA, so he sent it in for repairs and was contacted by Leatherwood stating that they couldn't fix it and that the model was now discontinued. They said he could buy the new replacement for full retail, which was more than the $412 he paid for the initial scope. He asked if he could pay the difference in cash, between what he paid and what the new super duper scope cost and they told him no.

He searched on Ebay for the new scope and it was a good deal cheaper than what Leatherwood quoted him.

I think it's a paperweight now.

At the time he bought that, I bought a NOS Bausch & Lomb Elite 4200 4-16x50ao for $419 delivered which has served me well on a 7 RM. I tried to get him to buy one with me, but he wanted all of the bells and whistles.
