I bought a bunch (like 2k pieces) of LC 308 brass from pulled ammo. It still has the primer in it. It shoots well out of my AR10, but some necks are so loose that I can pull the bullet out with my fingers after seating. Anything that loose is likely to come out in a mag under recoil.
Rather than punch out all the primers and resize, I bought a Lee Collet Neck sizer. Only to find that the mandrel has a decap pin. I emailed Lee to see if they sell a mandrel without the decap pin. They do not. So I asked if it serves any purpose to align the mandrel, or if I could just cut it off. No answer to that. And I've asked them a few times.
So, has anyone here cut the decap pin off the mandrel? Any ill effects?
Replacement mandrels aren't that expensive, so I'm not too worried about ruining it. I'm more concerned about wrecking the brass and not realizing it. But I can't see how it would cause an issue, as the work is being done up in the die where the case seems to be well supported.
Thanks,
Steve
