It happens though. Once I drove 1.5 hours to my favorite shooting spot. In under 5 minutes I was done. Had a stuck case on the 3rd shot in one gun, can't remember what happened to the second gun. But forgot ammo for the 3rd gun. I was home bored before lunch.

It appears the gun was unboxed and fired without being cleaned and inspected prior to firing it?

The excessive amount of oil is concerning as well.

I've been thinking about this and how it might of happened. I said in one of my post the extractor was stuck in a position. It had to be stuck in a position where it wasn't grabbing the bullet. Twice I had to pop the magazine out to get the fired brass out. It was after the 2nd time when we pulled the bolt to look at it. I'm sure on the 3rd shot the bullet was sitting low cause the extractor was stuck and that's what caused this.

My first thought was a blown primer from a defective factory round based on the diameter of the ring. That's why the spent cases would be vary valuable in trouble shooting the issue. I always save brass from new unproven rifles in case I need to do forensics.

I'll be doing that from now on. The brass just got tossed into my buddies brass bag.

I would consider sending the entire thing back to have them check it out. If something is out of spec, you'll probably have no way of knowing and it could possibly repeat the issue.

Mistakes happen and it sucks to send in a new gun, but to me that is the better alternative.

I have a RPR in .308 I bought last fall and other than the handguards being off center, its been very good. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

My first thought after seeing the bolt pic with the offset circle is that a wrong caliber round like a 223 got mistakenly chambered.

The bolt was miss cut at the factory. I had to send the gun in. 2-3 weeks turn around.

Yeah, only 3 shots. But I'm ready to go now. I've been doing some precision reloading with different amounts of powder. Might be kind of pointless cause I still need to break in the barrel, but hey.. I'm learning!

I bought a gun from them. Isn't that giving them a chance? And I'm still waiting for it to get fixed. 3rd week waiting.

This will be my one and only Ruger. I will never buy another or recommend them to any one. There service department is garbage. I just got off the phone with them trying to find out whats going on. Its been over 2 weeks in there hands and I have heard nothing from them. I have an email the day they received the rifle and I quote,

Ruger has some of the best CS around. I think you’re too high strung. Sure it’s frustrating as hell, what happened to your rifle. But you’re not the only gun owner who has had to send a gun back. I’d rather they take the time to go over the entire gun, being their flagship model, than send it out prematurely and miss something.

Nope, they are dead to me. When ever I do get my rifle back. I hope it shoots well and I never have to deal with them again. By buying another ruger. It just up's the odds that I'll have to deal with there service department again. And now 2 of my friends just said they had the same problem with ruger too.

Anybody doing the extractor upgrade by replacing the stock 3.15mm detent ball with the 3.5mm stainless ball ? Seems to allow a little better grip on the case and more reliable ejections. You can get a bag of 50 of the hard stainless ( 440 Stainless ) on Amazon for about $5 . So who cares if you launch one across the room trying to get the extractor slid back in place, just grab another one out of the bag !

Speaking of a crappy day at the range, packed the car last night, got up early and was the first one to the range at 8 am, get set up to sight in and "fuck, the elevation nob rotates but no clicks and no adjustment". Break out the allen wrench pull the cap of, worked with it for half an hour or so, no matter what I do I cant get the screws to engage the cam. Finally gave up and was going to the pistol range but by then every one was full.

'Whimpering sigh' (which is an improvement from my usual getting pissed and breaking something) and head home

Still a better day than a good one at work.

BTW, what got venomgland the vacation. I never even saw him post til I saw he was banned.
