Legal Mags in California

Re: Legal Mags in California

I make 10rd PMAGs that you can use with a maglock such as a Bullet Button. I have dealers throughout CA who stock them so if you want to check them out in person, I can probably point you to a local dealer. Or you can get them direct from me here: Stubby 10rd | 10/20 |10/30

Re: Legal Mags in California

Are telling me, not only do they limint capacity to 10 (which is what i was guessing) but they also have to change their mag realease button to a not removable type ?

Also when you say maunfacturer size on the 9 mm ?15 rnd is acceptable for a pistol?

Re: Legal Mags in California

Yes, regrettably there is a 10rd limit on all mags, rifle and pistol. Semi-auto rifles have to have a Bullet Button or other device that requires a tool to remove the mag. A 5.56 or .308 bullet used to drop the rifle mag is considered a tool as well.

The Midwest Px 10rd mags for 5.56 and 7.62 are excellent.

If you have AR type weapons, make sure they are not on the CA list of AR's that are not permitted. Here's a link to check to see if your rifle is legal in CA:

Re: Legal Mags in California

Yep, if your semi-auto rifle has a pistol grip, collapsible buttstock and or flash hider then you must have a bullet button, prince 50, radlock, installed and use 10 round magazines. The 10 round mag limit also applies to pistols as well.

However if you remove the "evil features" then you can use your normal capacity magazines and be able to use the original magazine release. This can be accomplished by using something like the solar-tac kydex fin that wraps around the pistol grip and prevents you from wrapping your thumb around the grip below the top portion of the trigger shoe. Other solutions are the monster man grip, U-15 grip, or the hammerhead grip.

Now if you are outside of the state and own greater than 10 round mags you cannot bring them into the state unless you disassemble them and keep them that way while inside of the state. The law is basically unenforceable though.

Its retarded, I know.

Negative on the pistol mags. Limited to 10rds as well.

Unless...you "rebuild" or "find" pre ban mags. There's "this guy I know" that found quite a few prebans that he rebuilt when he lived there.

Re: Legal Mags in California

10 rounds is the maximum magazine capacity, that includes pistols, unless you owned a standard cap mag in CA pre ban, calguns.net will give you more accurate and detailed answers on what is legal to bring into the state, and how to transport it

I will be moving to CA in the next couple of months, and have been doing the rounds to gather similar info. In addition to what is listed above, I also received a surprising amount of useful info by talking with an individual at CA Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms:
