I am going to be buying a new LRF in the near future. I only need one that can range out to 700 or possibly 800 yards. But 99% of its use will be 600 yards or less for varmint hunting(ground hogs).

I was going to order the Leica 900. I an wanting a precision piece of equipment. And I thought the Leica 900 would be the best bet for what I want to do.

I have been hearing alot about the new Leica 1600. I really do not have any need for one that ranges that far. But my question is simple. Will I see a major difference between the 900 and the 1600 at the shorter ranges I will be using it at??

A ground hog is not a huge critter. So would the 1600 do a better job at ranging smaller targets?? Or is it basically the same as the 900 in base quality out to 600 or 700 yards?? Thanks, Tom.

Re: Leica LRF

why not go for the 1200, i dont know what the price difference is , its a long time since i bought mine .it would cover you for the ranges you normally shoot plus a little bit extra should you need it from time to time

Re: Leica LRF

The Leica CRF1200 is still available for a limited time at $549 from Cabelas. That model is a big step up from the 900. I would suggest getting that while there are still some discontinued 1200s available. If your needs change you will be ready to go out to 1000+ yards. Also I believe that the 1200 has better components so it will be more reliable at the shorter ranges at which you plan to shoot.

Re: Leica LRF

For your use, as you described, the CRF-900 should be all that you need. At $429.99, it is a better buy for you than to spend $549.99 for the CRF-1200 which is basically the same exact unit with a more powerful laser for a bit greater distance or almost twice the price for the CRF-1600, unless you would like to use the more advanced features that the new CRF-1600 offers

Re: Leica LRF

So it sounds like the 900 will do just as good of a job for ranging out to 900 as the 1600 will do(out to 800 or 900)?? That was what I wanted to know. Looks like I am going to have to spend some more money with Doug. And go with the 900. Tom.

Re: Leica LRF

What is the difference between the Leica LRF and the CRF?

BTW I have the 1200 and I am glad I did not go with the 900 because in low lit the 1200 definitely out performs the 909. In low light the furthest I have gotten my buddies 900 that I carry as a back up is in the 500's

Re: Leica LRF

We have LRF 900s at work. they are ok, but get a bit sketchy farther out on smaller targets. If you're ranging something larger, building, truck, something of that nature you should be fine. Isn't so great for steel or target boards past 600 or so.

Re: Leica LRF

I have an LRF-1200 and have shot targets (With the laser) at 1237 yards.

I am also planning on selling this due to an upcoming lay off.

But it has only been in the field once, it is near brand new.
