Let the panic SELLING begin!

Forgive the ignorance, I must have been under a rock the past few weeks or so.... but whats changed? Why are people suddenly selling? Has Obama given up on his plans for a ban?

Glad its over anyway. This USA $hit-storm was starting to have an impact over here in Europe. Yesterday for the first time in years my local firearms dealer didnt have any .223 on the shelf.

Well maybe someone is trying tell me something....Like get off my butt, load cast bullets and TrailBoss or 5744 in my '06's and practice with my Garand & Springfield shooting on my hind legs.

I seriously don't get it.

How many of us have preached it for years to our unarmed neighbors, friends, family and acquaintances that it's time to stop playing the role of victim and arm your ass? And how many of them have scoffed and ignored the warnings, only to see now that the government really is serious about disarming the American populace. They are alarmed and panicked, but the writing has been on the wall for a hundred fucking years.

It was never was a joke, but they always said a gun ban could never happen in America and wrote us off as paranoid kooks. I bet the folks who own semi autos in New York are no longer saying they'll never do it. And now the same people who never thought it would happen here have gone out to snatch up every last rifle, pistol, magazine, round of ammo, reloading die, jug of powder, box of primers and bag of projectiles that they could get their hands on, causing a bubble in the gun market when there's an uncountable number of guns in the country.

In a society where people recognized the state has no authority to regulate weapons (exactly as the plain text of the Second Amendment says), the politicians would never consider mentioning a gun law. Instead, even the allegedly pro-gun people in America will often say they support background checks, waiting periods, restrictions on full auto, etc.

These allegedly pro-gun folks say things like "I support gun rights, but there has to be some control on who can get access to weapons." The criminals don't give a fuck about the laws, but here go the "pro-gun" folks advocating the regulation of the weapons owned by the people who aren't a threat. The mindset is so absurdly contradictory, like asking for a square circle or a unicorn with a seat belt.

I dont mean to keep asking the same question over and over..... but why are people suddenly selling up now? Whats changed?

on a side note: I would have presumed that the average joe who bought guns and bullets in a panic will just hold onto them when the bubble bursts. I mean 1000 rounds of 9mm (as someone said above) is always gonna come in handy. Even if you werent much of a shooter and it took you years to get through them... its still something your gonna use. Its like having crates of toilet roll in the garage. Might take a few years to use it all, but no point in selling it once you have it.

Indeed, I wonder how many cowering Bostonians took a moment to notice that until the cops found the alleged perpetrator, the police were everywhere that he wasn't.

Awesome post sir. I couldn't agree more. It's infuriating.

Lots of folks bought with the intention of reselling at a profit. There are numerous stories of non-gun owners buying ammo.

If you peruse the for sale forum you'll see the $30 AR mags aren't moving as they were a few weeks ago, the $350 jug of Varget is still available and the $100 per K primers are gathering dust. I believe these people have every right to get every dime possible from any sale, but it won't break my heart if they get stuck with supplies they can't use or have to suffer a loss on resale.

And It is all the more enjoyable to imagine them being further abused when experienced reloaders refuse to accept the assurances of the sellers regarding the integrity of said powder and primers: If there is no seal on the powder bottle, as far as I'm concerned, it is damaged goods and I'm doing the seller a favor if I buy it. At a discount!

I will love it when this starts happening especially to the stupid fuckers the paid $50-$100 for a damnn pmag. I feel it want be long till that market is flooded with ARs and ammo with the ammo manufacturers running wide open and the people on the private side are about to start dumping stuff.

The day's a comin.' My boss suddenly became very interested in ARs around last December (never expressed much interest in firearms, at all). That's all he talked about. Bought two bottom tier M4s at top tier prices. Asked me to find magazines and ammo. He managed to find eight mags and a couple hundred rounds of ammo. For weeks it was all he talked about. Still hasn't fired a round and I expect he will sell everything off by the end of the year.

More likely he will keep them in a safe and when the next domestic terror event occurs buy a couple more.

Actually, I hope the new buyers don't sell a thing. If these people have been awakened, we should be offering to assist them in becoming proficient with their firearms. We're all better off when law abiding citizens are armed and knowledgeable - IMHO!

^^^this! We need more voters that are also gun owners, concerned citizens

Not all citizens are politically aware. Not all see the need to vote.

Not all citizens will ever arm themselves. Criminals however will. It better enables their predations upon the average citizen and other criminals.

For the citizens who do vote. Some are misled on the issue of guns due to fear or ill conceived concepts of personable responsibility.

Vote, reward the leaders that protect your rights. Punish those who don't.

I really doubt there will be much selling, I just don't buy that the people who bought XYZ because of impending legislation will suddenly say, "Oh, I guess I don't need XYZ anymore" far more likely is that XYZ will gather dust in many cases but I just don't think the people who ran out to buy XYZ in distrust of the government are suddenly going to trust the government again.

Because their running out of space and mama is getti g pissed looking at all the "junk" sittinv around the house.

Because mama is getting tired of seeing all that crap sitting around the house. Lol

I am still concerned about the long term supply and legality as a high volume shooter.
I am also concerned about those who do not prepare for shortages and spew hate toward those who profit from their improvidence. Humans are shallow and self serving. On both sides of the issue. Why hate the guy who acted, planned, purchased and sold at a profit? Why does he owe you, the improvident one cheap primers or ammo?

I also notice that the ones who complain the loudest are the biggest gougers when they are in a position to do so. Also the ones to tell you how generous they would be if they had the item you want. Like a naked man offering you the shirt off his back.

As an example of failure to plan, I did not realize how short some of the things I like, want or need would become. So, I recently purchased several Surgeon rifles and actions on this site and others. I paid what was ask and the sellers profited by my lack of planning. I did not complain, I paid and I learned. No big deal.

I did not sell ammo or supplies in the rush so I am not defending my actions. I just hate to see people blaming their problems on others, bad mouthing them. Plan ahead, it will come again, assuming it has passed for now, which I am not at all sure of.

Some 4895 would be nice! 175gr SMK's wouldn't be bad either.

Everyone is buried in orders and has been since the 1st of the year. Sierra just expanded the facility and is buried in orders, powder deliveries is WAY behind normal deliveries and the orders has multiplied (most are made out of country). past of the was the HS order and subsequent order of a LOT of ammo.

Strong suggestion: try 4064. Most consistent pressures. IMR 4895 mixture was changed in 1976 and has never been the same as Military 4895. I used to use it a lot dating back to the early 70's as did many of the team shooters. they've moved on to other powders including RL-15. M118 LR is loaded with both 4064 and RL15.

well said. This a capitalist society (or used to be).

While I haven't purchased anything with the intent to sell, I have been chastised for "hoarding" components. I learned long ago to say a couple years ahead. IF I decided to sell any components, I would get every dime possible. If a friend needed components to get by for awhile, I would give them to him.

A lot of the panic buyers I know from work (none of them 2A guys and most voted socialist party lines anyways) bought everything during the panic on plastic. They will be selling in the next few months I think. As their 0% on transfers from one card to another expires and they didnt get their refi due to being upside down or not qualifiying they will be in a tight spot. Most of them have 100-200 rds and 2 mags and havent fired their ARs.
Honestly not sure these guys are worth a damn as gun owners, that they ever will learn how to run their firearms proficiently (admitting I need more practice at the same time I type this) and will forget all about this the next time it comes to vote and will have long abandoned the 2A bandwagon that seemed so important to all of them AFTER the last election.

Maybe if you took the initiative and took them out shooting, they would see the light and start voting WITH us.

I understand your sentiment and I share it. I take a quite a few "noobs" and "never have before" shooters out and teach them the basics. One of my favorite things to do is share my passion and get more people excited about it.
Except I know these guys. They really believe that the socialist way will make things fair for them and they will be better off with obamacare and higher taxes really are needed to help take care of our country. They are mall-ninja type jackwagons that I would be scared to share a range with. Even if I did my best safety education ever before hand, I would still want to be hiding behind a thick cement wall WAY behind them.

Maybe if they would take me up on the multiple offers I've extended, I could do just that. I think Pow is correct; most of them will chase whatever is flashy and hot at the moment.
