Maggie’s Let's see if I flunk out of my old job......

5. Is it true or false that the riding light must be turned on when anchoring the ship?

True
False

Wrong Answer!

This is true. Riding lights are sometimes called anchor lights due to when they are turned on. You need to know the rules and requirements to work as a Navy officer!

Riding lights? WTF, they are called RUNNING lights. No wonder I got it wrong.

Anyway, moving on.....

18. Where would an officer go to sleep at night?

the tarmac
the mess
the lounge
the billet

Wrong Answer!

The billet is the place in your quarters where you would sleep as a Navy officer. These quarters are found "below" on the ship, as the deck is exclusively reserved for working operations.
Another WTF. I thought that every night I went to sleep on my rack in my stateroom.. But WTF do I know...

26. What is often used in order to move cargo?

winches
ropes
straps
all of the above

Correct Answer!

Winches are very helpful to have on naval ships in order to move cargo. If you want to become an officer, you'll want to know how to use one in case you're tasked with the job.
I'll take "what is tackle" for $1000 Alex

30. What is the first step in a man overboard drill?

a muster
do nothing
begin tossing things into the water
toss a life-raft off the deck

Wrong Answer!

During a man overboard drill (or an event) the first step is a muster to guarantee an accurate headcount.
And here I thought the first thing to do was to turn the ship back to where the MOB was reported/last seen. Muster can wait a few minutes......Guess we were doing it wrong

Oh this is a real gem
31. Officers in the Navy are evaluated on what?

balance
IQ
fitness
attractiveness

Correct Answer!

Navy officers are evaluated on their physical fitness on a test called "FITREP". The higher ranked officers are given a different test, which evaluates their skills in other ways.
LOLWTZF

32/35 with some bullshit questions thrown in. Come to think of it just like every test I took in the .nav

Apparently a weather deck is exposed to the weather - figured it was some stupid shit that didn't do what it was called. You know, like a poop deck.

And you should go to a muster first when someone falls over the side instead of throwing them a fucking life ring. LOL good job Navy.

Meh ... Submarines haven't got any weatherdecks anyway.
We threw the rudder over and shove the stern away from the MOB 1st.

No, I meant the real Heer.

We made a brief comeback in 99 and were part of the reason for the Bundeswehr reorganization in 2002/2003 into the vastly more politically correct paper tiger that exists now.

My lifelong dream of eventually becoming a Major, wearing knee high leather riding boots that someone's sole purpose was to shine and possibly wearing a monocle were crushed.

Maser just squeaked and passed out.

Old memories of being on a mission where we had to maintain garbage onboard instead of dropping it in weighted cans because we didn't want to make ANY noise in that location. Normally store it in the freezer that had been emptied and then discharging it out the TDU after we got off station. Couldn't shoot it fast enough to keep it from thawing.
Cracking old, rotten eggs into toilets to throw them away. If you send them out in the tdu without cracking them they implode and it sounds like an RBU6000. Really makes our sonar girls nervous?

Pull into Faslane to offload the "stuff" and "those guys" and even the Paras that were standing guard on the pier said "Christ, must have been rough. You guys stink"?

27/35 but served no time in the Navy. I thought there might be curse word questions but nope. Oh well. Been to the brig once but that’s a story saved for later on.
