Here's two i shot in Australia. Got them both with one shot with the old .303 at 30 yards. They were running right to left and i hit the top one plumb through the shoulders and the other one caught the bullet at the back of the ribs:

This was my first/only hog I've taken. Was out first weekend of Deer/Rifle season here in NE Oklahoma... this guy walked behind my tree-stand ~ 8am... shot w/my old Ruger .243 95gr Hornady SST at about 25 yards. He went about another 25 yds and dropped.

Didn't put him on the scales but estimate him ~ 250-275 lbs before dressing him out.

My first and only hog so far. I plan to get out again real soon. I killed this with a 7mm SAUM 150gr PSP. The guide yelled, "Shoot!" and I fired from 10 feet away at the bigger of the two shadows in the thick palmetto brush.

The smaller of the two shadows was the dog, and that would have cost me $2500.

Camera makes it look bigger than it was. Weighed 120 lbs.

Unlike boar in the US where people snip their nuts so they get huge and grow huge tusks, these are real WILD boar not altered, hunted in E.Europe

when i get back to Romania next month I'll make sure to take a picture of a soft tape laid next to the tusk and I hope you know that the measurement is of the FULL tusk once pulled out.

the real tusks are on a separate wooden mount, the ones inside the mouth of the mount pictured are fake ones.

just so you know, 26cm tusks (10") are not all that uncommon in E.Europe, do a quick Google and convince yourself

take a look at the way a Euro boar looks and compare it to a US boar, not just size, but shape of head.

the euro boar has a much more elongated head with a much longer snout which also has a different shape

There are boar bigger than the one I shot and not (man made Hogzilla ones either)

Not sure if you know, but American hogs are typically of small stature and don't get much bigger than 200lbs UNLESS caught and 'played with'

You don't have to school me on boar, I live in S.FL and have a friend who traps a LOT of boar in PB County. A lot of them he snips and releases into the wild. Those will grow to huge proportions (AKA Hoggzilla sized) and their tusks will also grow to crazy lengths. Untampered boar however will typically stay under 200 lbs (and that's a BIG untampered boar).

Most of them down here can be stuck with a knife.
I'd love to see ANYONE stick a 600lb boar with a knife, like the one I had to shoot 6 times with a .12 ga to stop.

Red stag has HUGE antlers very much like Elk antlers - if you look carefully behind his head/boar's head there are some Red Stag antlers, you can only see the tips

they're from a small deer breed

as far as huge cutters go, those pictured cutters that grow a complete circle and curl back into the jaw is a trick most who capture hogs will do to young hogs, they will knock out the whetters and release them into the wild.
A true boar raised in the wild will never get cutters that look like that, as they will break and stay short from fighting and grubbing for food.

That trick will only fool 'dudes' but is frowned upon by those in the know (my friend who captures HUNDREDS per month does this to a LOT of them) and from the looks of the one pictured, mother nature would never let those grow to those lengths and to that shape.


...and i would pay big money to see anyone stick a 600lb pig with a knife, lol

Just outside of Waynesboro. The land butts up to Briar Creek. The boar in the first two pictures came in at 225 lbs and the two sows in the other pictures were both right at 200 lbs and damn tasty.

I can assure you all the boars we catch are WILD as ever. They are not "fixed" in any way,shape or form. The pics you see me post are straight from the mountains we catch them in.

The "tricks" you talk about are well known by anyone who hunts boars enough. But these I post are not, in fact if you looked good at the pic I posted the boar still has his whets.

He may have injured it as it angled fwd and therefore didnt work as well as it usually does.

Like I said when we get that sized boars here i'll let you know. The biggest I seen stabbed was 385# dressed by my bf. And like you mentioned avg. hog sizes here are 100-150# dressed. But on the other islands 200-250# are found more often then here on my island.

here I am with a nice boar with 5" tusk he dressed out at 125#

Heres a pic of one that went 9+ inches on both sides if you look good you can see his whets so just letting you know they do exist. As for europe would love to hunt boar there one day.

It must be a special 'diet' in Hawaii that promotes growth to those levels. I'm saying that because I've seen pigs 3 times that size with half the size cutters.

It's definitely genetics, diet, or injury to whetters that allow cutters to grow to those lengths.
For those boar with cutters that curl back into the jaw to survive and be able to feed, they most definitely have a diet that doesn't require grubbing.

You also don't fit the boar hunter profile (and I'm saying that in a complimentary way), but it's nice to see you guys are having fun doing it.

Yeah I believe its mostly due to genetics than anything else. We have areas like what you talk about as well. Much bigger boars with no where near the size tusk we see in other areas.

Grubbing is a where they get majority of their food from so they grub quite a lot actually.

We have "untampered" boar double that size here in Texas. Sorry, but your S-Fla experience is not representative of the whole country.
