Lets see your USMC M40-M40A6!!!

XM-3 was research project, looked at 20in + supressed format rifles.
Yes.

But they went from M40A3/5 with 25’’ to M40A6/7 with 20’’.

The XM-3 was dead at arrival it seems. Its 18.5’’ barrel showed it had lethality at some range..

But they wanted a more compact (folding buttstock) rifle and accepted a 20’’ barrel as sufficient for the ranges their snipers would expect to engage.

So 25’’ barrel was just a hangover from old days, and took time to change?

Anybody remeber in their heads what the 5’’ of extra barrel gained in MIL Wind/Drop at 1000yards?

My M40s shoot nearly 150fps faster than my xm3 with M118LR. Thats 6.5” difference in barrel length going from 18.5 to 25”. Also surprisingly my xm3 with 18.5” barrel shoots almost identical to my A6 with a 20” barrel. The hart barrel seems to be a fast tube or maybe I just go lucky

MARSOC A3 finally complete

I spoke with Gary about this and although there was sufficient data to do more changes to the barrel and prove it was better, the powers that be, if I recall correctly, were 4 officers and they “Didn’t want to do to much deviating” from what they’d had decades of experience with. The twist rate alone took some hemming and hawing, apparently.

Anyone be interested in an M40 shoot in Texas? I have a private 600 yard range just south of DFW, would be cool to see everyone’s guns, only a few hours from Houston and Austin. Plan it for the fall when it is going to be cooler for sure, it’s already stupid hot here. Pic is me on my A3 in Iraq ⚡⚡

I'm in Shreveport, have my XM3, but I'd be down. Granted I don't have the CMP mount installed yet but everything is pretty much done. I'm not at all against it, fear we're running out of time with the weather until fall though. It's been somewhat mild here in Louisiana to start this summer but I'm betting July and August will be miserable.

Pic for thread. BTW I haven't been loading lately because my stuff is all at home. But there are pretty dang good prices to be had on FGMM 185gr Jugs. Primary arms has 13% off right now 100rds is $1.50 a round. If we get a date for this shoot, I'm tempted to pick up 100rds myself.

I’m looking at Oct if we do this would give me plenty of time to get things prepped, probably dates would be Oct 5th and the 19th? I would need shooters to let me know what dates you could make out of those 2, majority wins and I will finalize. I will put a thread together tonight to put somewhere?

This would be a structured event, meaning I would control the line, I have neighbors so all rounds need to hit berms on the 600 yard steel range range, I also have a pistol carbine range so you guys could bring any other carbine clones you want to play with and a dedicated 100 yard sight in range.

OK folks I have posted the USMC M40 shoot event in the Bear Pit for member link ups, go check it out as I also want this to be a fund raiser for the different sniper foundations that have supported over the years. So you have officially been challenged to raise funds for great organizations to participate in this event.

Question for the community, are A4 Gen 1 stocks still attainable for builds or am I shit out of luck? I’m really hoping to run DD Ross metal for a build.
If you’re referring to the big hook style stock good luck my friend, they can be had but talk about extremely rare. As for the DD Ross bottom metal you can order a A4 stock direct from McMillan with inlet for that bottom metal if you want.

Small hook would work as well, I’m just specifically looking to run DD Ross bottom metal

I am honestly debating that. I would probably buy an already painted stock and switch them out every now and then, but keep the scope/action as is.
I wouldn’t recommend removing barreled action in and out of the stock several times and risk damaging or loosening the bedding around the recoil lug area if you can help it. But you can always tape the areas off you wish to keep clean when painting also. I went full send on mine and don’t regret it one bit

Hen's teeth. Badger Ordnance M5 BDM Detachable Magazine Trigger Guard first gen is also correct.

Not at all, I have about half a dozen new in package DD Ross M40A3 bottom metal available right now for $350 each shipped/insured. Anyone can contact me if they need one.

eurooptic has the usmc marked ones in stock right now.

The ones at EuroOptic are just regular S&B 3-12x scopes that were marked USMC M8541 on top of the ocular housing. These ARE NOT real or overrun USMC M8541 S&B scopes, but they are fine to use on a clone.

Well aware. I don't think he was referring to the genuine usmc scopes, so just pointing out the direction for the fellow member. That's all.

I know that you and others here know what these scopes are, I just wanted to get the basic information about these scopes out there. My post wasn't a criticism of your post or anything, sorry if that's how it came across. People should know that there's nothing special about these scopes. I've been asked by numerous people over the past year or so about the authenticity of these scopes, and I was thinking about doing a post about them. Any time these scopes are mentioned, we should remind people about what they actually are. The scopes are fine for clone builds, but hopefully no one is buying them with the assumption that they're real pieces of USMC history.
