A ding on my new scope!!!!

009-2.jpg

No big deal to have a little ding on a scope, unless it's straight out of the box......
it's even anodized!

How many times would it have to be missed along the quality control process to make it to a customer?

Brand new CDS VX3 2.5-10 left by Big Brown this afternoon.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

Ouch, I'm sure that Leupold will make it right. Its just the ass pain up front that will be in your mind the next time you get ready to make a purchase.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

One of many "oops" situations involving Leupold QC.

Frankly, it is purely cosmetic and I wouldn't worry about a little "ding" as much as I would be worried about "what else" QC accidentally "overlooked" during the inspection process. If you mount it and it holds zero and tracks true...don't worry about sending it in unless you just want to rub Leupold's nose in it like the proverbial puppy that went on your favorite rug.

LOL

Re: Leupold disappointment today

Did you go to Leupold about this or just go straight to the hide?
I'm not a Leupold fan per say but don't see any reason to throw them under the bus.

Cosmetic dings don't worry me either, but how did this one get through the anodizing, assembly, and inspection process?

I know Leupy's warranty is good for lots of stuff, but I doubt getting lost all up inside a plus size woman hardly makes the coverage....

It would test the scope's seals and if wasn't gas-filled before insertion.. it certainly would be once I was finished with it.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

That's some funny stuff right there!

I expected some razzing over my bitching, but I just counted 8 Leupolds on my stuff, this new one, and another one still in the plastic.
It just surprised me to see something like this pass through so many hands and go unnoticed.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

I had higher standards for Leupold. You can always return it, but agreed that is really sad to see. I feel like if you try to return it the process is going to make you wish you didn't. Good luck.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

It's going back tomorrow.
But not because of the ding. I could live with that.
The glass is what I can't live with.

What's wrong with the glass? Is it sub-par even for a VX3 or is there some other problem with it?

Re: Leupold disappointment today

It's blurry and out of focus around the edges.
I screwed up and compared it the scope on a rifle I've been shooting the last couple of weeks.

You should have bought a Dark Ops CounterSniper scope. Haven't you learned anything reading threads here?

Please don't take my advice about the CounterSniper scope seriously. Cheers to you for being a good sport.

Yep, it's the "fast focus" or something like that. The thread pitch runs it back and forth real quick.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

I got it from an online site that has a good return policy. It shouldn't be any problem sending it back.

I'd been pondering on buying this scope or another Nightforce. Looks like I picked the wrong one this time.

Do you really think it made it through QC without being noticed? or it did get noticed and they just said that is within spec and let it go or maybe they hoped you would not notice until you had it mounted and thought it was your doing. Send it back and make them repair, I'm fine if my stuff is sratched but since I paid for it I want to be the one to put it there.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

It's on the way back already. I called the place and they said no problem with the return.
I've got a new NF on the way.

That's exactly correct.
QC noticed it but decided to box it up anyway.
Some they win some they lose.

Final QC is under bright lights for cosmetics

There is no way the QC inspector didn't notice a ding like that.

Re: Leupold disappointment today

Like I've said before: With Leupold, YOU are the quality control.

If you know enough to diagnose a problem with your scope, are willing to complain, and you can articulate the problem so that the people who work for them can understand it, then eventually they will fix it if the scope is 'out of spec' according their own specifications.

A cosmetic 'ding' is not a deal-breaker for me. I would be more concerned with whether the reticle is level, whether the adjustments (turrets) track level with the reticle, and whether the scope even tracks properly throughout its range.

Congrats on your new Leupold, and on your new job as quality control inspector: now it's time to thoroughly test the scope, which I would do before I sent it back for a simple scratch.

Edited to add: I see you have a new NF on the way, which in my opinion is always the less time-consuming solution.
