Rifle Scopes Leupold problem

I had a leupold mk4 lr/t with m1 turrets. I had it on a rem-700 and never had any issues, (didn't use it much either). But, I traded it to a friend who put it on a scar-17, and all of the sudden, it can't hit jack. The rifle is accurate, sub moa he claims. He hasn't had any issues with the rifle before, but when sighting in the scope, it was all over the place at 100 yards. It has never been dropped, it has been in a case or a safe since the day I bought it. Could something have happened to the scope in swapping? Or could it be a manufacturer defect that went unnoticed with my limited use with it? Will leupold fix it?

Scars are extremely tough on glass.

Put the scope back on your bolt and perform a box test...

Before I sent it back, I would have another shooter try the scope/rifle combo to see if the aberrations continue, and I might also mount it on another rifle of known accuracy for an additional test. It seems suspicious that it worked fine for you but started having problems after it was mounted on another rifle. You might also want to check the mount/rings to insure they're properly installed and torqued. If you rule out all the other possibilities and determine the scope is defective, contact Leupold. Their warranty covers used scopes.

Send it back to Leupold. You'll spend much less on shipping than you will time and money on ammo trying it on another rifle. As long as its mounted correctly there's no reason it should shoot like that.

^ and "what if" luppy says nothing's wrong with it? Why not familrize yourself with the fundamentals and check it yourself? Save yourself the down time if its not needed.

Maybe your friend sucks at shooting... Maybe he has buyers remourse. I would get it back and bolt gun it on a proven rifle.

If the box test shows that the scope still functions correctly check the mount your friend is using, especially if it is a QD mount. He might be getting a little movement on the rail. I have a SCAR 17and use an Addland mount because I had heard that SCAR's were rough on optics. The mount is a little pricey but it is built like a tank.

The rings that are on it are meant to be mounted on a 1913 style rail. So he has the rings straight on the flat-top of the scar. I'll have it back tomorrow and I'll take it to the range this weekend. Try it back on the rem-700. See what the deal is.

I've read a lot of posts about the SCAR 17 ruining scopes. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here. Leupold's warranty covers the initial and all subsequent owners if there is something wrong with the scope.

Did he torque his rings/ mount to proper specs? Have you tried it since being mounted on the SCAR? Seems simple and shouldn't need to be asked but sometimes the small shit is easily overlooked.
