Last June had cataracts removed and new lenses installed, as all scope oculars were out about as far as they would go. About Sept I could see well enough that I adjusted the oculars on them all but never shot any, as now I could see irons like long ago and was only shooting them. Few weeks ago took a 223 out and while she printed a nice 1/3moa group it was 2 moa left & 1.5 moa low. Long/short it was not the gun, it was my eyes. Every stick printed left & low but the amount was different based upon the scope brand. Wish I still had the higher end shit I sold years ago to test, but between Leupold's, Mk 4 M1 & M3's, Bushnell, (40 year old & late models) & Hawke 2x7's & 3x9's the results as to amount of movement, was interesting. The cheap ass Hawke's moved the least, then came the Bushnells, (older the least) w/the Leupold's moving the most. Sure is nice to be able, to shoot irons again,...

Research parallax error with implants and cataract surgery. I worked with an older gentleman some time ago who had a similar issue-bottom line is if the implants are not perfectly centered, you will have it. Of course there's a more in depth explanation available, the articles may be helpful. Strange as it seems, short range red dot on an AR but he had low left also.

Dude you have my sympathy. I shot competitive for many years wearing contacts. I was sponsored and having my shooting bills paid. I had the chance to get them corrected with laser surgery. Great, right ? won't have to deal with all that crap anymore.
Could not shoot to save my life afterwards, gave up for a long time. I went from really good to can't hit anything.
Twenty five years I am no where near where I was.
Everyday activities and life are great, just shooting sucks.

Can you hold the same group once you are zero'd
Yes. I've shot everything with glass now and they all shoot the same groups they always have. Just had to re-zero them all. Everything with dots never moved or if they did its in the noise as I always zero them at the top of the Dot at 100 yds. I've a Trijicon RMR with a 12 moa diamond ret, that was zeroed at 250yds at the top (inverted V) on a 308 gas gun, it never moved.

Sorry to hear this. I had both of my eyes done and had zero change...I see someone above mentioned parallax issues being the cause. Just didn't happen in my case.

I did have posterior vitreous detachment in my right eye that created a ton of floaters (think squashed pterodactyl floating across) but that has resolved in the main as my eye surgeon suggested (brain edits it out, moves off to the side, etc...hardly notice them anymore).

Sounds like once you adjusted zero then everything has worked out fine since. Congrats on that.

Huh. First I’ve heard of that. Going to google.

Had my cataracts fixed Jan ‘24, and didn’t pay attention to the zeros afterward…they must’ve stayed the same or I would’ve thought I’d notice. I didn’t pick up a gun for 11.5 months after the surgery as I then had two retina detachments…so my memory might be off.

But all is fine now.

Ugh. I’m really sorry to hear that. What was the technical explanation for the change? And what type of comps did you compete in?

It was back in 2000 I do not remember the exact explanation but the Dr. said I can work with you and make glasses to fix it. I just kind of gave up, I did not want to go thru all that. I had the procedure to fix all the problems.
I shot IPSC, steel and most of the pistol disciplines, things just didn't line up anymore.
There were also several other reasons I did not pursue the correction.

Ok, I kinda guessed it was pistols. How do scopes work for you?

Irons on a rifle were not good I have not shot a scoped rifle never was a rifle guy. I have set up several rifles this past year and intend to give it a go here shortly. I really want to progress out to 1k yards. It Might be a pipe dream and I might of spent a lot of money for nothing.
I retired in the beginning of the year and have lots of time to try and I need something to keep me going. I really enjoyed shooting pistol and am hoping I can get rifle to work. I still buy pistols regularly, I have 12 right now that have never been fired and I have one Para I bought in 2000 right before all this happened and it has never been fired in 24 years I have owned it. It is time to get them all dirty.
