Which do you think is best on the Scar17? Does anyone have both? I like the extra 2x that the Leupold offers but I wonder if it is slower in CQB with both eyes open at 1x. I have heard that the Trijicon is extremely fast in 1x, almost as fast as an Aimpoint or Eotech. The Leupold can be had with a firedot circle/post-type reticle that is similar to the Trijicon. I believe they are both pretty close in weight. The Leupold is about 200$ more. Thanks for the input.

Rifle Scopes Leupold vx6 or Trijicon Tr24 on a Scar17?

That is about 1000 more and a little heavier. Thanks though. I dont want to spend more than 1200 or so and want to keep the Scar pretty light weight. I like both of these optics and hoped that someone here could give opinions on these.
I have a TR-24G on my SR-15 mod 1... It's pretty close to a true 1x (as I can shoot both eyes open), glass is clean and tracks true. It hasn't given me any issues. I'm thinking about parting with it (and my mod 1) now that I got a KAC LPR. Let me know if your interested... I'll save you some coin over new if you go that route. As for the Luppy, I got no experience with that kit...

I would go trijicon. Used a guys at the range once so not much experience but it made me want an ar with a low power optic. The bushnell 1-6.5 is sposed to be nice but honestly ive never really looked at it. Not even sure if its in your price range.

Neither of these is a particularly compelling option in that price range. The VX6 is nothing like the MK6 and despite having excellent illumination is not particularly fast at close range because the barrel distortion is so great. The Trijicon is an old design that Trijicon has really let go fallow probably because they subcontract the whole Accupoint line and are much more focused on the products they make themselves and focus on selling to the military. The Accupoint also lacks the power range of many comparably priced scopes many of which are made by the same OEM anyway.

At that general price range the following scopes all come to mind as much better choices:
Optisan CX6 with the Mudskipper 3 reticle I designed ~$600 and yes, it is competitive with the more expensive options
Burris XTR2 1-5x (has daytime bright illumination) $1,050
Norden Performance (GRSC) 1-6x $1025
Probably also the SWFA 1-6x at $1,000 though I have no first hand experience with this one

Didn't realize the Trijicon was not so cutting edge anymore and didn't realize that the VX-6 was not supposed to be quick up close. I didn't know about the Optisan brand. What are the weights of the options you pointed out? I seem to remember that the Leupold and Trijicon were pretty light and that is one of the reasons I was looking towards them.

I have a SCAR 17 and saving up to get the Lupy Mk6 1-6. I think its an ideal optic for the platform.
The Optisan is 17.5oz, the Burris is 21.1oz, then Norden is 18.6oz and the SWFA 22.4oz. The table at the beginning of that thread has weights though it is not updated to include some of these new models. I'll get around to it at some point but not for at least a few months. I agree that light weight is an important consideration, one that I have criticized more than one scope maker on. In light of your preference for very light I should also mention that a Meopta 1-6x is coming out. It is daytime bright and though I don't know the exact weight, their stuff tends to be light. I wasn't blown away by it at the show (lousy reticle and clarity that was not quite equal to the $600 Optisan that I brought for a reference) and so I didn't write about it this year but it might save an ounce on the Optisan, has excellent illumination, and doesn't suffer the distortion of the Leupold VX6.
A fair assessment. The Mark 6 is certainly not in the same price range but it is a good optical platform. It's only issue is the illumination that appears to flicker if you move your head around as it is only visible when you are in the center of the eye box. You can probably find one of these locally to test it out. Individuals differ greatly in their opinion of that illumination. For some it is a non-issue and they love it because it's daytime bright. It drives others crazy and they hate it. Probably 2/3rds don't care and 1/3rd hate it. Nobody is in the middle that I have encountered.
Hey BigJim - love your optics reviews. By the way, I was told that Leupold addressed this issue around a year ago. Scopes manufactured in 2013 with a "Y" at the end of the serial number have the updated illumination and users of the new updated illumination system report problem solved.
This is a rumor that is not accurate though it seems to be the word on the street. I specifically asked the rep about it at this years show. Changes to the illumination system have not been made since the review sample I received last year and the illumination on that example does appear to blink on and off as the users head moves too far from center. This is mostly an issue of user comfort or annoyance as the eyebox for the illumination is only very slightly smaller than that for getting an image.
Thanks for the update and setting the record straight. A good reason to get some actual hands on time with the optic to see if it will be an issue for me.

I am using a TR24 on my SCAR 17 right now as a patrol rifle. Its ok for that role but I am saving up for either another Vortex 1-6 or the Leupold MK6. What the 1-4 TR24 lacks is good hold overs. I can hit man sized steel with it out to 400 yards (long as the range I have access goes to) but smaller steel at distance is hard since the black line under the triangle covers so much. My SCAR 17 is a 1.5 moa rifle on average with match bullets. I know it would benefit from a better optic.
