So I have a scope that I'm getting ready to mount and I was going to use the leveling method that I used last time, which was bubble levels on the base and the elevation turret and then minor tweaking with a perfectly vertical line on a piece of cardboard (by using a level to make the line) at 100 yards. Then I just happened to watch the video by lowlight mounting an ATACR on a base using a deck of playing cards. Can anybody give a testament as to how well that works? I assume if lowlight made a video about it then it must be pretty darn accurate. Just seems too good to me true.

Here's the video

Cards would work, a quality feeler gauge is good also. Spuhr mounts use a thin wedge shaped piece that fits into a groove in the base and against the underside of the scope body, all the same principle.

Badger makes a leveling device which levels the scope/mount off of the rifle.

I have used the tool below, with a plumb line, very quick, easy.

My best advice is to check the rifle at the range, run it up, see if your rounds stay on the vert.

Use a plumb line, not a fence post, telephone pole, etc. Half of that stuff may not be true plumb.

Good luck.

I've never used a deck of cards, but I've used feeler gauges and imo it's the best method I've tried. I doubt I will ever go back to levels, unless I'm using a two piece base and can't use the feeler gauges.
