Light bullets in fast twist barrrels

Some people make the case that over-spinning light bullets could cause poor accuracy. In practice though, it’s not a black and white issue. Many people shoot varmint bullets out of their fast twist .223’s for example, myself included. I’ve never had an issue, and accuracy is great over thousands and thousands of bullets. In the case of really overbore cartridges, bullets sometimes come apart in flight, which seems to be exacerbated by worn/rough throats. I’ve seen this happen, but never had one of my guns do it. Modern bullets are pretty dang good though, and if they survive the trip down the barrel intact, they’ll usually reach the target.

You have a specific combo you’re thinking of?

No, just thinking. I have a 16.5", 1-7.5' twist 6mm Creed, Proof Research carbon fiber barrel on ARC Nucleus action. Thinking about lighter bullets to minimize damage to pelts in predators. I haven't shot a single round through it yet, It will mainly be for larger 105-110 gr rounds target and game management, whitetail does and inferior bucks. With the wealth of knowledge available here it makes no sense to waste time experimenting.

I believe Lilja has an article on their site that discusses and Litz has commented on it before. They're talking about affects on external ballistics, not as much the potential for bullets to come apart.

If you're wanting to lessen pelt damage, light bullets in a 6creed may not be what you're looking for. Any light 6mm is likely going to exist (even after blowing up in the critter). That's going to make a mess. I'd lean toward heavier / tougher constructed bullets and keep the velocity down.

Use spife’a formula to check, but your shorty is t gonna push anything fast enough to damage them, especially in a quality barrel. Tinker away.

If you want to lessen pelt damage with any fast 6mm, then you need to drop velocity and go with a more solid bullet that will pass through. What makes them lasers also turns pelts inside out.
