Light weight rifle build, need stock ideas

Looking for stock ideas for a light weight rifle build. I was think something like Kevlar, want it light but stiff and beddable for accuracy.

Has anyone been down this path before?

Don't know what your time table is, but I'm building a 7mm-08 improved and I'm going to try out the B&C Alaskan II stock.

Or a McMillan Hunters Edge stock or any of their stocks in Edge, they usually run about 22-24 ozs depending on the pattern you go with.

How light do you want to go on complete rifle??

Then you should be Ok with any of the McMillan's in Edge fill.
I hav several Remington Classics in Edge and all rifles come in weighing right at 7 lbs 4 0zs - thats with Scope & rings so you should be OK.

I have yet to weight the barrel and action. That should give me a better idea of what is possible. Here was what I am thinking.

scope, rings, bases 1#
action & barrel 4.5#
stock 1#

total 6.5#

Nothing ever goes as planned... extra .5#

Looks like your pretty close to getting there except the stock, tough to come in at 16 ozs.

One other thing to remember - since I don't know the barrel length you are going for, remember one important factor besides finished weight is balance, I try to build for balance as much as weight on a hunting rig, I've had a couple rifles come in a little lighter that didn't balance worth a darn.

I do - and not so to suggest my way is best, everyone has their own preference. But again for a pure hunting rig that you will carry and at times will maybe have to shoot off-hand, I like mine to be just a bit muzzle heavy so they settle down quickly. I like them to balance just in front of the front action screw, some like them to balance right on the front action screw so just depends on the shooter. I had one rifle that was way muzzle heavy and was just a pain to carry - its gone now

I'm sure some will chime in with much more knowledge since I'm still a bit of a newb myself.

Lone Wolf rifle stocks are stellar. Extremely light weight and beautifully inletted. Well worth the wait.

But for those that can't wait, just buy a Sako Finnlight. Very well engineered rifle.

No idea on the Lonewolf, on the McMillan Edge stocks they run about $518 + $25 shipping and take right at 16 weeks +/- a couple weeks. My last Classic I ordered on Dec 10th and it was delivered on March 10th.

Don't know if you are like me and like wood stocks and blued guns but here's what I did.

I wanted to make my Wife a hunting rifle. I had one more Model 70 action and I barreled it for 243. 22 inches.

Found a gunsmith who had some new Model 70 stocks laying around from customers who bought the rifles and wanted plastic stocks.

I got the stock for $50 and bedded it to my action. Shoots real nice. It's stuper light and doesn't walk with it gets hot.

I talked my wife into letting me use it for some up coming matches. I have some good target rifles but too heavy when the match calls for a lot of cross country (I'm old and lazy, I like light).

I really like the HS Precision Pro Series Sporter stocks for hunting rigs. They are a good bit cheaper with less lead time than the Lonewolf, Mac, or Manners, but plenty tuff and will do everything you want.

I have 2 308 tacticals

one with an HS stock = 1/4 MOA
one with a Mac = 1/4 MOA plus $400

I love my Mac stock for really hard Tac use and abuse. But I don't plan on dropping my hunting rifle out of a chopper or running over it with a Hummer.
