LMT .308 MWS

Hey guys. I'm trying to take off my barrel on a MARS-H LM8 build for the first time, the barrel budges about a 1/2 inch and then does not move at all. Any suggestions?

No rail accessories, both screws are out along with the bolt, and separated the upper/lower.
Same exact issue only with LMT MWS .308 and 20" SS barrel. Interested in what people might say on this.

@Faronth @Weberferguson
Is the bolt forward/in battery? That would prevent it from it from pulling out.

Otherwise just start pulling, but be mindful to not trash the gas tube
Bolt is definitely not in battery. Its not that I cant tap it out I am kind of wondering if my upper or barrel are at the top/bottom of their respective tolerance or something like that. Is this perhaps a common thing? Does not seem to affect anything just kind of wondering about it and saw that post.

How much effort are you putting in to remove the barrel? Depending upon how many rounds or dirty it is, might have to be a little aggressive with it. You shouldn’t have to punch it out or use tools.

any suggestions on getting a dmr stock on there also. I have no problems with two magpul stocks but the other one is too tight to even get on there
Mine is a tight fit, but nothing crazy and locks on very solidly. Are you saying that you can't even get it started on the buffer tube?

Just got mine back from Cerakote. Anyone have any leads on a 6.5 Creed barrel? Ive been waiting for one for my second upper for months.

Good luck with that. They pretty much stay out of stock at the normal vendors, and seem to sell really quickly when posted here or arfcom etc.
I did get an email saying D. Wilson is now offering LMT barrel conversions for AR10 barrels though. So if you want a proof or something similar, that’s an option.

My boy got this antelope with the MWS last weekend. Made a nice little layup shot. She tasted awesome! Did some coyote hunting later that evening as well. They were bursting with manliness so the shirts had to come off.

Any experience with the LMT Proof conversion? I have been thinking about one due to the factory options being perpetually unavailable but have seen no feedback.

I’ve only done it on a LMT gasser but two things…..

I assume you removed both screws…

Make sure nothing gas tube related is getting hung up in the handguard…..

or it may be a bit “gooey” in the barrel/upper socket, maybe a squirt of lube while the barrel is out as far as you can move it. Rest it on the muzzle for a bit and see if the oil frees it up a little.

Damn jumped to new and thought I was getting todays news. Sorry for the necro…

I don’t. As far as I know D. Wilson and one other gunsmith someone mentioned earlier in the thread (name escapes me without digging back through the pages) are the only ones doing barrel conversions.
A 6.5 barrel has been on my list of things to buy, but whenever they pop up for sale it’s not a good time for me to spend money.
If I can’t get a factory LMT I’ll probably get a bartlein or proof conversion. I’m sure it would be nice to save some weight with a carbon fiber barrel, just end up being more money.,

Question for the LMT community, I just purchased an LMT MARS-H 7.62 with 20" barrel, I would have liked a 16" SS 5R barrel but since I could not find practically any other LMT 308 anywhere I figured I might as well grab this one. I also would have preferred an LMT Olive Drab rifle but these are like unicorns these days.

Question is - if I have my rifle Cerakoted in some type of OD Green, but leave all LMT markings masked - how much would this "devalue" the rifle, I am "okay" with black, just prefer other colors and like the uniqueness of the OD Green. Also, if I do go the Cerakote route, anybody know which color might look best, I know Charlies (@longshot2000) has had some green LMT's before but I think these are from factory. I have a question in with LMT to see if they can provide any guidance but thought maybe some of you may have already gone down this road and curious your thoughts.

Yes I believe you’re looking at two different finishes, the mrp 5.56 is likely ODG in cerakote and the mws 7.62 was a contract overrun which was anodized.
Thank you TS, that must be where my mixup is - I've seen what looks to be painted rifles and thought they were MWS but likely just the 5.56 whereas the green MWS was anodized.

I’m enjoying the hell out of this rifle. I debated for a long time between the SR25 and the MWS. I’m glad I chose the MWS. I went 6/6 on C zone steel at 1,198yds. Granted the wind conditions were 3-5mph and consistent, still held 8 tenths for wind but I couldn’t be happier. I can cover a 5 shot group with a quarter at 100 yards.

It was worth the wait.

Nice! And is that with the 13.5" barrel? I just got mine (LMT) yesterday and have a 16" coming I'm going to cut down to about 14" and pin an SR brake and a 18" 6.5 Creed that just arrived today. I like that I can swap barrels similar to my AI - with a simple tool...

20” 6.5. It’s a reflex suppressor, so it only adds 3.5” to the end of the muzzle. It’s not the quietest setup, but it works well enough to shoot without earpro if I really needed to.

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, I’m pretty sure I cut this down this afternoon.

Optics for mws identifying as a spr.
Thinking of one of the following
1)Bushnell HDMR 2 3.5-21 with slaved aimpoint micro
2) XTR III 3.3-18 with aimpoint
3) t6xi (2.5-15 or 3-18) with the micro
Any experience with these set ups? Pros cons?
Value for money order is i think 1,2,3

HDMR sucks in my opinion. Looks good under ideal weather conditions but struggles in adverse such as overcast/cloudy conditions. No experience with the others. Maybe consider Mk5 3-18.

I would not recommend #1, the Bushnell has very narrow FOV and glass is surpassed by newer offerings in the same price class. XTR III is lighter than both T6Xi options; however, 3-18 has 56mm if low light is your game. Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 is a decent choice too, so is NF NX8 2.5-20x50 but is a bit more finicky than others.
