LMT .308 MWS

Optics for mws identifying as a spr.
Thinking of one of the following
1)Bushnell HDMR 2 3.5-21 with slaved aimpoint micro
2) XTR III 3.3-18 with aimpoint
3) t6xi (2.5-15 or 3-18) with the micro
Any experience with these set ups? Pros cons?
Value for money order is i think 1,2,3
I've used the USA made XTR3 18x on mine for a year now. I like it but theres a few elements that stop me from loving it. I bought it because Cameraland was blowing them out and the weight was a positive. My friend had an 18x MK5 on his MWS and I would probably go with one of those if I bought again.

But the Burris has done everything I ask of it and is overall pretty nice, so I'm not planning on getting rid of it. Of the options mentioned I'd go with the Burris or the Leupold.

Man that is out there. So i had this idea of wither 3d printing or milling an extension to the handguard.just to protect the gas block a bit.
You would still get most of the benefits of the monolithic,( no barrel nut, free float) but protect rhe gas block a bit.
Let me know if you succeed!

I think i still have catia access. And i have a lm8, could use that as a starting point.
Your technological skills evidently surpass mine by countless light years, but I would love to benefit from your genius if you figure something out while we wait for longer mws handguards to appear!

Hahaha...more like fumbling nerd than genius. At a minimum i can try to get a 3d model build based on my lm8

Stretched this guy out to 900yds this week with 175’s
Had some gusting winds, so hits were a little sketchy on anything past 700.

Tried a few at the 1000, but it was all over the place.

I can’t remember I if I used a file or a dremel and cratex bits. If you use some Prussian blue or something you’ll see where the interference is. On mine it was the rear corners by the snubber screws. Slowly took away material until the trigger pins slid in.
I dropped a TT AR10 Diamond in and it went in as was as I recall

Anyone else have trouble getting their checkout completed? Mine won't go through. "Paytrace Error"
I stayed up for the sale to start and got the same message at least 20x. Tried again @5:00am est and scored a semi auto bcg. The cl 16” barrels were sold out or I’d have picked another one up as well.

Does anyone know if the 18" SS 7.62 barrel is profiled right to take an OPS collar and use an AE30? Looks likes its possible from the product pictures.
Interested in knowing this too, but for a shorter barrel. Wouldn't mind a flush-fit suppressor on an LMT if possible.

Although, am I incorrect or is Allen Engineering shutting down? Or someone else is taking over making the suppressors?

Firing pin tip broke off in my LMT MWS 7.72. It must have happened on the last shot that I fired because next range session, click no boom.

I was shooting it suppressed with "service rifle" loads. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I sure wish this thing had an adjustable gas block.

16” Proof carbon barrel (D Wilson modified)
Rugged Radiant Ti can
Rugged 3 port brake
Titanium Superlative Arms adjustable gas block
Proof bent gas tube
Raptor SD charging handle
LMT Imperial BUIS
Trigger Tech Diamond AR10 trigger (it fit!)
EoTech 1-10 SR5 reticle
ADM Recon mount
Modlite OKW Gen2
Knight’s scout mount
Tangodown QD vertical grip
Magpul panels. Really like the finger stop in front of the VG

Still need to Cerakote the shiny spots on the barrel and will switch mount to a Scalarworks.

Still need to shoot it but I’m happy so far. Very happy with 8.5lbs

Any ideas as to when the 15” mlok mws uppers will be released? Can pick up an lm8 now, but wondering if I should wait for what I really want.
There’s now a true 15” which will be very rare but the 15.5” mlok hopefully they make them again. With the contract work at the moment all the 15.5” are likely being chopped down to fulfill that contract but it’s LMT who knows. Lol

My Buddy just got a new MWS and his new carrier has the new firing pin spring in the carrier.

Via their site "Firing pin spring for our .308 BCG (LM308D and LM308DA). Intended to reduce the chance of slam fires when using match primers.

Anyone have experience or thoughts on this new spring option?

Yes I have a few mws with the new design, there is also a new firing pin design. Both work well, the newer design definitely sits “higher” in the carrier.

Looking at taking this on trade for something and can't really tell what it's worth. Curious if anyone of you would know?

LMT 308 in FDE (rifle only no optic included)

Round count approx. 400 and in average to good cond.

The lower is marked LM308MWS it has an ambi selector switch and mag release but no ambi bolt catch

Owner said he ordered it with a special stainless steel barrel with a 1 - 11.25 twist rate

Looked on gun broker and found something similar in black selling for around 3k

Any info or suggestions?

Thanks

I’ve seen that one floating around. That has the lm8 handguard and a non mars lower. When I talked to the owner it had a 16” chrome barrel, so I’d ask for pics of the text on the barrel to confirm it’s stainless (SS) and not chrome. The factory fde is very nice. Both barrel types shoot well but the SS barrel would add a bit more value. Great setup , one thing to note is the handguard is Lmts proprietary design so mlok and 1913 won’t work for attachments unless you add their mini 1913 rails first.

Thanks for that info I really appreciate it! Any idea on value, with / without the SS barrel?

I wonder why LMT changed the design of the firing pin... Just based on the images, I'd guess that the new firing pin has more mass. By having more mass, the likelihood of a slam-fire increases. Thus the spring was added to mitigate that.

Perhaps the new firing pin costs less to machine, even with the additional spring...

I've never had a slam-fire on my 6.5 Creedmoor 24" or .308 20" MWS with using factory Hornady, Federal and PPU match ammo. Using the old firing pin design.

Anyone had success with a JP SCS and BRT gas tube combination?

I have SCS that I was going to sell, but considering playing with the 18” mws to see if I can tone down the over gassing.

Currently with the H3, it just destroys my brass

With the dual ejectors, I don’t see why they need to have that much gas, but I guess that’s a different topic
