LMT .308 MWS

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Yeah I don't want to come off a hater or anything of it, I intend to use it for some time in the future.

It just doesn't seem to stack up that well with other aftermarket upgrades one can make to their MWS....i.e. Geissele SD-E trigger, or Atlas V8 bipod.

In terms of a comfort-ability upgrade...I would look towards a UBR w/ slashes heavy buffer. About a $100 more than a BABC, but I think it will make a much bigger difference in terms of the MWS shooting softer. Just my opinion

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I put the battlecomp and SSA-E in my Sig 716, those 2 things made that rifle just so much more fun to shoot. I'd buy another battlecomp, but I think I am going to change my MWS to a 6.5 Creedmoor. That rifle just really shines for accuracy.

My MWS trigger isn't that bad, dunno if I got lucky or what.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

you need to put velcro on the brass deflector..... brass looks good after that. no problems here.

</div></div>

Re: LMT .308 MWS

The neck has two gouges and the center of the casing (OD) has a dent that may render my brass unserviceable... the Velcro trick may work for the dent, but the two gouges on the neck are pretty nasty. Gun shot well and functioned perfectly. guess the LMT will get pass down brass.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

You can try a heavy buffer and a Tubb Carrier Weight System.

Two dings on the case neck and a dent in the case body is fairly typical on 7.62 rifles. The long dings running parallel to the bore are from the neck of the case hitting the inside of the barrel extension during the ejection phase, and the dent in the case body is from hitting the aft end of the ejection port or the brass deflector.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I understand that.... My OBR is not nearly as rough on brass as my LMT (nor was my REPR).

I may pick up a slash buffer and flat wire spring (or the like) as I plan on running my MWS suppressed (slow things down a little).

thanks for your input guys.

I have run a couple hundred rounds suppressed 18" SS system with a Gemtech. Had 1 stovepipe when I first got the suppressor shooting dirty around 180+ rounds suppressed before. Since then no issues. Ammo Federal and Black Hills 175 full power stuff.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Hello all. New to the LMT MWS club. Just got my LM8 this week. Out to the range yesterday, she shot well. 5 shot group sub MOA at 100 yds with FGMM 168. I have the 16" CL barrel, I also have the 18" on order. I'm posting to ask you all if you have any handload data that could help me get a head start on loads specific to this platform.

I know sub MOA is great, but after seeing the performance with factory loads I'm interested in seeing if I can improve on that since the rifle certainly seems capable.

Thank you

BTW this thread was very helpful in deciding to buy the LMT. Thanks for posting all the good info.

Great looking set up! That USO is quickly becoming THE go-to scope for the MWS.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I just got my LMT MWS as well ... 8) Very happy with it! One question though. Are the LMT BCG and bolt available for purchase as spares? I know LMT is using all their parts for rifle delivery. If BCG and bolt are not available for sale at LMT, what alternatives do we have for this rifle?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Try this

XBR-42.5grs (go up or down in .2 if its not great)
CCI-BR-LR
Trim 2.00
No crimp
Seated to 2.805
Amax 168gr
LC or federal brass
Brass sized to -.003 head-space of 10 fired pieces average
(my headspace gauge reads 10avg of 1.606 so I bump to 1.603)

That shot sub 1/2 in my gun.

Please note that I have only about 100rds through it...and observations below are based on that limited expierence.

1.) Flash suppression abilities with FGMM 168gr., and Hornady 168gr. Amax was extremely impressive, as you can someone see in the video I posted above night shooting w/ the MWS.

2.) I was also satisfied with the lack of real difference in the report b/t it and the factory A2. I double plug with this one rifle, so take that fwiw.

3.) Environmental disruption seems like it could be a problem depending on how/where your shooting. I'm afraid this device will kick up a sh*t cloud if shooting prone over loose dirt/dust.

4.) In terms of recoil reduction...it's a wash imho. Sure it's doing something, but most certainly not reducing $220 worth of recoil away. Most people I think buy these because of this property.

Would I pay $220 for this device? No

Do I think this device at least merits it's $220 price tag? No

Do I think this device is an improvement to the MWS over it's stock muzzle device? Yes

If I'm gonna drop $220 for an aftermarket part....it really needs to "wow" me when installed. A Geissele trigger is perhaps the best example of this. When I installed the BABC and used it some, I never got that "wow" sensation. </div></div>

I took mine off, due to the dust kick up, as we shoot prone in the desert, so it is really awful. My wife also despised the noise (she usually sits directly behind me with muzzle braked rifles to avoid the typical side ports), it did tame recoil but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Not sure what I will do with this comp now.

I agree completely on all of your points.

I'll probably put a surefire on, they always seem the best merging of recoil, cost and the dust issue.

A side note, I think one of the BABC's selling points is it is a flash hider too? I do not shoot in the dark so I have no basis to prove/disprove this aspect.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I have owned my MWS for about 16 months and I dumped a shit ton into mine changing the configuration several times and currently I have the 18" SS 5r barrel ,PRS Stock with Slashes 10oz buffer , BABC and Geissele SD-E trigger and a NF 3.5-15X50 NP-R1. I’m searching for feedback from others with similar set-ups. I am getting about 1.5 MOA with 168gr Federal Gold Medal Match Sierra Match King. I guess when I read 1/2" MOA quotes being thrown around on forums I question if I got a fucked up barrel or I need a heavier bullet...Or I just suck.. My friends OBR is way more accurate.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I've had groups with my LMT all the way from .3" to about damn near 2" at 100yards... I would say I average about 1moa... maybe .9".... My best 6group, 5shot each, 30round averaged was about .749" @ 100yards (best so far with my LMT). Lets be real here, .308 AR's are about 1"moa rifles +/- <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">regardless of manufacture</span></span></span> and shooter error has more to do with it... It really is about keeping a consistant shooting stance / hold when driving a gas gun in a .308 cal. If you think you're going to get a .5moa on every single group you're kidding yourself regardless of rifle .308 AR brand unless you're running a different caliber like .223 or 6.5creed. Re: LMT .308 MWS

Trust me when i say this.... it is more you than the rifle... This is the best I've done EVER with my LMT... And while i'm still in the top ten, I'm @ 10th place and I'm the only .308 in the top ten.... Shooter first, then bull barrel, then different caliber other than .308 if you want to be sub-moa all day long. Reloading really helps also! 40%shooter, 40%rifle, and 20% ammo... Not saying it isn't possible with a .308, but I've yet to see it with a .308 AR.... I think it is safe to say I have the proof to back up my words in the semi-auto forums: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3523625

The best I've EVER done with my LMT so far, I've tried 5 times (150 bullets later) with no luck to beat this average.

Here are some other 6group, 5shot, 30 round targets.. <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Feel better about yourself</span></span></span> and keep practicing your shooting stance... it really is all about keeping it consistant. There really is an art to driving an AR rifle.. Not like a bolt action from what i've been told. Although, having a bull barrel and maybe a different caliber might help somewhat. If you DON'T take time between groups, HEAT build up in your barrel will kill your groups!!

I've just gotten into the precision semi-auto game recently with my MWS purchase.

I've noticed improvements with each range session but was wondering this same point at the range earlier today.

How fast is too fast?

I knock out a five shot group in a few minutes with a couple of minutes in between groups. Am I fighting myself?

What is the consensus of the more experienced semi-auto shooters here?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

i really dont wait much when taking my shots (just taking my time), but might take about 4 to 5min between groups..... that's if i'm running one of my 6group, 5shot entries. Otherwise I'm just having fun and going to town till im out of ammo.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Elfster1234, Thanks for the load data. Do you have FPS on the AMAX load? Have you tried 168SMK instead of the 168AMAX on top of the same charge? Also have you tried 178AMAX? I'm loading up some test loads this week to try and want to have a few different ones to see what mine likes best. I'm shooting the 16"CL barrel for now till my 18"SS arrives. Thanks again!

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I put an order in for a LMT LM8MWS 31 weeks ago and am still waiting for delivery. For the guys that have one how long did you have to wait? My patients is wearing thin. Does anyone have any information on the delivery schedule of these rifles?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I ordered it from a company called Vance Outdoors located in Columbus, Ohio. They are one of the biggest gun shops in the area. When I first placed the order I was told 20 weeks. It has now been 31. I know it is a quality weapon but am getting a little frustrated with the wait time. I just thought someone may know something about delivery schedule.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

If the Dealer you purchased from is not a LMT premier dealer meaning a high volume LMT dealer you will wait a long time since the premier dealers always have rifles on order. I would cancel the order and buy one from a dealer with stock.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

They have one at Scottsdale Gun Club and at the Shooter's Vault in Phoenix, I saw them on Friday when I was looking at wasting more money.

As to the groupings for tzoid, I usually order up lots of 168 Black Hills, but I had shot it all, my groups were under 1" at 100 yards if I did well. I just ordered up Federal Gold Match175gr, 400 rounds of it to try it out in all of my 308s, the Sig 716, bolt 308s and the LMT, if it does well enough it will be my new "standard". I do not reload much anymore, and never did with the 308, the Black Hills always performed so well I did not care or see the point.

I still have the 16" barrel, it performs so well I have a hard time trying out the longer stainless one you have. I am curious how the 175gr's will work out at 600 & 800 yards for me.

Also, take that BABC off and see how it does, perhaps the noise is bugging you and you do not realize it, making your groups open up. I took mine off of the Sig the noise and blast are just terrible for me, my Steyr 300 win mag's brake wasn't that annoying.

You just have to pay for shipping and the transfer to your local dealer (which should be 25$ or so).

</div></div>

You could have your new rifle by Wednesday. I can order stuff just as fast as many dealers. 16" CL would be fairly easy to find.

Good Luck.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Gildoom, thank you!!!!!!!
I just purchased the weapon......They were calling it a LMT308MWS and that was messing me up since LMT calls it a LM8MWS.
They are the same so I am good to go.
Thanks again!!!!

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I would like to drop a fixed stock on my rifle. I just can't seem to master the collapsing stock and shooting very accurately.

What stock do you suggest? I am obviously thinking MagPul PRS but their newer MOE fixed stock looks good too - I'm just not sure it is compatible with the LMT platform...

Since I will need to replace the receiver extension who makes a good one for the AR-10 style guns?

Any suggestions on a new spring? Or what do you think is the best buffer to use? I see some folks using Slash's heavy buffers - what exactly does that improve? I see folks talking about reduced recoil but does it do anything for reliability?

Thanks,
Freddie

^^Talk about badass.....MWSs are neat and all, but L129A1s are for the asskickers ^^

Assuming it had the standard kit for the L129A1....Acog, ghey vfg, etc. They got an actual "sniper support" or the sharpshooter config. that features a SB, proper bipod, etc., which is the way I feel these rifles should come.
