I went to the range to shoot my new pof and I used my rounds that I have for my bolt gun. They seemed to fit in the mag fine. I think they where to long for that type of platform. From a bolt gun they where only 2thousands off my rifling in the bolt gun. Any recommended oal for auto loaders. To run right. Using 168 grain hornady bthp. Thanks for the help

Re: Loading for pof 308???

I just shot 100 hornady 168 amax's through my pof build, dpms sass barrel though. I do mag length for a pmag, about 2.82 COL. I found 45 gr of varget to work well on it.

Re: Loading for pof 308???

Max OAL for Pmags in my P-308 is 2.82" or just slightly less. At 2.820" the noses scrape the front of the mag so I load to 2.810" or under although I have NEVER had a feed issue at any length so long as the rounds fit in the magazine.

Extra info: Varget, H4895, and IMR 8208XBR have worked well for me with 168 AMAX's. Varget gave the best velocities with that combo but with stout loads where the velocity advantage was apparent I got big ejector swipes. I'm running the stock carbine buffer setup. FWIW, when you start handloading specifically for the POF, chasing the lands is useless. The NATO reamer they use has a long freebore, mine has about 0.22" jump when rounds are loaded at mag length. IMR 8208 worked better than other powders for me, and is gentler on brass due to lower port pressure from the faster burn rate, only gives up 30 FPS from my 16.5" barrel and the accuracy is the same as I got with Varget.

Re: Loading for pof 308???

My oal length is 2.815.the gun would not take the next round from the mag it was getting stuck and messing up the tip of the bullet I am hoping it is just that it is to long what's your thoughts

Re: Loading for pof 308???

Stuck in the mag or on the feed ramp of the barrel extension?

If on the feedramps it could be a rifle problem. If they're sticking in the mag it would seem to be magazine related. If it's the mag you could try sanding/routing the front of the mag very slightly to give a little clearance and see if that fixes it. You could also shorten up the OAL and see what happens, right?

Re: Loading for pof 308???

I use exactly the same as Vinson described, but 2.80" for my PMAGS. 45grs of Varget under the 168gr AMAX. This is in my DPMS SASS. No problems, shoots well.
