I use a standard Redding FL die with tapered plug for initial forming of brass and a standard neck die thereafter. I never turn necks. Haven't had to bump the shoulders yet. I seat bullets with a Redding Competition Seater die.

7/08 Win brass necked down, 108 Scenar, CCI BR, 40,8 grain Varget,

260 Rem. brass, 120 Nosler Balistic Tip, CCI BR, 41,8 grain H380, COL 2.816, 2879 fps

Savage with LW barrel, 26 inch, twist 8
Chrono : Mehl 18

I have used anywhere from 37 to 38.5grs of Varget with the 140AMAX and the 140 SMKs. Both these loads were in the 2770 range out of my 26" Pac Nor barrels. I use necked down 308 lapua brass with a Federal 210 primer.

I have a Kreiger 23 1/2" barrel now (Just had it set back and rechambered from 24")that I am shooting 123 Lapuas in with 43.5grs of H4350. This load has not been cronographed but is very accurate and has out shot any other load I have had in my 260s. I am guessing it to be in the high 2900fps range because it takes about 26 to 27MOA to be on at 1000yds.

This load shoots under .5MOA for 3 shot groups all the way out. As an example it has shot 3/4" groups at 400yds and 2" groups at 600 and not just once or twice. A very good load for the 260.

I have been using 43.8gr of H4350 in WW .243 cases necked up with Fed 210M primers and 142SMK's, OAL to be .010" off the lands. Trajectories in my 28" L-W barrel correspond to a velocity of around 2800fps.

I have, however, lost primers with that load in cases with smaller capacities, and am considering redeveloping my load to a lower node. There are a number of other potential (scope and bolt) issues going on with my Savage rifle, so load redevelopment is not currently occupying the top priority during my off-season.

In any instance, cases make a real difference in load safety, and the current load I'm using is up in a zone that could give some handloaders significant pressure issues. In my rifle, with WW brass, pressures appear reasonable.

In another mode, I am also considering doing some work with a homemade harmonic tuner, and that will change the criteria for my loading strategy.

It was determined that the problem brass was not undersized, but rather was of an unusual and unacceptably high degree of hardness. This caused the primers to fall out (not blow out) after the cases were reinserted into teh ammo box, because the brass was too hard to spring back after firing sufficient to retain the fired primer. (Yes, the primer and pocket DO expand considerably during firing. In the normal course of events, they spring back sufficiently simultaneously that things pretty much usually stay together. In this case the unfired pockets measured .205", the 'good' fired ones measured .211", and the 'loosies' measured .212". That's flatly remarkable. In my experience, more conventionla pockets are genrally in the .208" range, and get unaceptably loose at around .209" or .210". In this instance the new primers were very hard to seat in teh new prass, and the fired pockets stayed too large to retain the fired primers afterward. Yipes!)

Don't be overly concerned, this was a very unusual circumstance involving controlled testing of brass that is not commercially available, and no harm or injury occurred. Ask me no further questions, I'd rather not say...

2845 fps, MAD in single digits, SD low teens, 5100' asl, excellent accuracy to 1200 in 26" Schneider 8 twist barrel. This is very similar to other loads posted but the addition of the moly really drops pressures and allows minimum of five loadings from RP brass, which was a big issue for me before going to the coated bullets. If you're having issues with this brass, try the moly. This is not max in this barrel, can go faster.

Here are my favorite long range loads for the .260. Rifle is a GAP Rem 700, 1-8 twist Schneider P5 at 23". All loads are in sorted and prepped Rem brass, neck sized in a Redding standard N/S die. COL is 2.800" to 2.810" (about 0.020" jump).

142gr. Sierra MKs, 43.0 grs. RL-19, WLR primers, 2725 fps
139gr. Lapua Scenar, 43.0 grs. RL-19, WLR primers, 2735 fps
139gr. Lapua Scenar, 41.0 grs. H4350, BR-2 primers, 2740 fps

I noticed no one has mentioned VV powders. Sierra lists loads using 140, 150 and 550, all three of which I have on hand. Still waiting on the rifle (260), but I plan to try them. Anyone else?

Used VV N-550 with 139's in reformed Fed .308 brass, to 7-08, then .260. Used 40-41gr range. Too hot, and I think too fast powder burn rate. Would suggest VVN-560.

W760 works very well in my 260LR DPMS, sub MOA with TSXs, Bergers, Normas, Sierras & Hornadys. It was designed for gas operated semi-auto 308s so should work well. It also meters to 1/10 gr in my Lyman, Redding or RCBS measures. (yes I am a "measureholic", 8 at last count)

What words of wisdom could you share when reforming brass from 308 to 7-08 to 260?

I have a bunch of unfired 308 BR brass that I would like to try in the 260. We'll see how the small rifle magnum primers will do for accuracy.

My advice; dont. Not when Winchester and Lapua make .243 and Win makes 7-08. IMHO, plain Rem .260 brass is a better bet than resizing any .308. They all work, but simpler is better.

I discussed the small BR primers/.308 family case story with G. David Tubb, and his comment was simply that it was only an advantage on paper. He no longer uses brass with small pockets.

Anyone else? </div></div>Eddie, i use vit n160 for my 243 its clean and very consistant, n140 can be used with the lighter 50g-80g bullets but for 90g + bullets n160 or high energy n560 is exellent.paul.

Jedi, Is .620 the correct BC? That is a Berger Bullet correct?... and is it a VLD or non? To me that would be an awesome load in my 260 Rem.

I finally got to load up some 6.5 Creedmoor rounds. I used the 140 AMAX and loaded 42, 42.5 and 43grns of H4350. Got the following results:
42grns- Av 2817, ES 23, SD6
42.5grns Av 2831, ES 18, SD 5
43grns- Av 2870, ES 19, SD 5

All loads were right around 1/2 MOA with the 42 and 43s getting some .3" 5 shot groups at 100. I plan to test them this week at 300 yards. No pressure signs at all on any of the loads.

Not yet. None around. I like Hodgdon products though as their Extreme line is very temp insensitive and I need that in a powder more than a little velocity.

What made you go with the 4350 vs. some of the other hodgdon powders?

H4350 is what Hornady uses in their 6.5 Creedmoor loads currently. So it was a no brainer. Grapevine has it they are switching powders on their 120 AMAX load to Varget for lower velocity/lighter recoiling load for the highpower shooters 200/300 but the 140 AMAX is staying with H4350. I am going to stay with H4350 with the 120s also as I want more velocity.

I did get out a couple of days ago with these loads at 300 yards. All were under 1.8" with 5 shot groups but the 42 and 43grns were the best so the 42.5 is out of the running. The 42grns were averaging 1.25" groups and the 43grn was averaging 1.4" so both are still sub 1/2 MOA. I plan to try them out one more time.

Apart from the advantage the long tube gives, what do you see the advantages/disadvantages of the Creedmoor are vs the 6.5x47?

Already in the process of building a 260, but want another 6.5 for range work.
