Loads for 6.5 SAUM 4S

What are you using to turn your brass? Hand? Drill? How tight are you holding the neck turner? If you're using a peer drill you shouldn't hold the turning tool too tight, it should be allowed to move freely with the drill...not sure if that makes sense...

I use a k&m tool.

First i was turning by hand with the screwdriver holder.(not tested them on the resizing after)

And i have tested it with a drill and i hold in my hand the cutter assy.
I dont remember how much strong i hold it.

Both methods work fine as long as you don't hold the cutter tool too tight and allow it to float with the drill.. If you hold it too tight it's likely that the cuts are deeper than what you are measuring to at the shoulder neck junction... Might be enough to make it too thin and cause it to seperate..

Just a note to the guys turning their own necks. Don't get into the shoulder to far or the necks will separate after firing.

And has this happened to you? What makes this caliber different? I turn onto the shoulder about .020" on all my caliber I turn the necks on. Please explain if you have had personal experience with this.

I did this on a few pieces of 7-08 brass I was necking down for my 260. I split the case with a cutting wheel to see how much I had left at the shoulder junction. It was a lot less than I thought.
I know that the saum brass is thicker just a warning. It is hard to come by and hate to see anyone toast their cases.

Still have hard time finding the sweet spot to stop turning to the neck junction .

Just like this wont it be easier to just neck down /trim to lenght and then fireform (Cream of wheat)?
Then you know exactly where the junction is?

If i want to fireform where do i start? I have red-dot?

Also a note on trim lenght
The reamer print state 2.025. But i see people trimming form 2.010 to 2.015 and even 2.025?
2.025 isnt that too close to the reamer spec?

As with all of my set s I use Sinclair's chamber length Gage inserts to check and see what to trim my brass to. They are simple reusable and take all the guess work out of it. For the 6.5 it would be the G-264 after I measure then I trim them .015-.020" shorter depending on caliber. I then measure after fire forming for growth.

My GAP 6.5 SAUM should be here in a couple months, and I finally scored some H1000 yesterday. I still can't find any 130 Hunting VLDs, but my local shop had some 140 Hunting VLDs, so I picked up 100. My brass is Remington 300 from Copper Creek and I have CCI Magnum primers.

2 Questions:

1.) What is the recommended max charge of H1000 under the 140s in Remington cases?
2.) What COAL with the 140 Hunting VLDs?

I want to have 50 loaded up and ready to go when the rifle shows up and could not find definitive data for this combo.

Thanks,

-J

Of the top of my head as I drive to work is this. Max for my gun was 61.3-61.5 grains. And the OAL is around 2.885-2.9

My 6.5 SAUM Tactical:
Smith - Patrick Jones of TTGC,Bighorn TL2,26" Chanlynn HVY Palma 1:8.5, .296 NK reamer .081" F/B
H1000 60gr
Norma 7mmSAUM processed by me to turned to .015" and .020" onto the shoulder
139gr Sceaners
2.780" OAL or 2.220" base to ogive .020" off the lands
3125 from Magneto speedV2
Best group .194" (5) shot @ 100 and Worst .7 @ 61.5gr (slight bolt lift but 3209 fps)
With only 55rds down the pipe velosity should increase so we will take this load and see how it fairs at distance.

Just got mine this week here's the chrono and loads from the first shots down the tube.
specs SAC bighorn tl2, Bartlein #3 24" 1:8 twist, gap new reamer .081" freebore.

h1000 Norma 7saum brass prep'd by me, coal 2.888" Berger 140gr hybrids lit with fed 215
over a magnetospeed chrono.

59.5 2934fps
60.0 2960fps
60.5 2985fps
61.0 3022fps
61.5 3054fps
62.0 3086fps
62.5 3094fps
63.0 3109fps
63.5 3146fps
64.0 3182fps

easy bolt lift on all loads, no observed pressure signs on virgin brass.
quickload estimates pressure on the 64.0gr load around 66kpsi so I didn't bother going any further. Besides I started crunching more powder than I really prefer at that point. I'll fine tune the load and report back with accuracy.

Gonna throttle up the H-1000 to see if the accuracy holds with some increased speed.
Also, have 130 Bergers to load with, will follow up with that data...

On a side note using my feeble instruments I'm not getting good results turning necks to .015 or even .0145". I can't get a bullet to fit through a fired case... Some will pass through on a .0145" turned neck but not all. None will with necks turned to .015". Accuracy is "ok" around 3/4 moa but I think it'll do better. Five shot groups will put 3 in 1/2moa or better and then I'll have some random fliers out of the group.

im going to try turned at .0140" and see if that works better.

Can't gripe too much.....this tube has over 2700 rounds through it. This 50 pieces of brass has 23 firings. I'll have it re-barreled after this hunting season.

I will take bets that you will use that same reamer with the longer throat, I know I would:). I would say you got your bang for the buck on that one and then some! Congrats

I just bought quickload, anybody know how I can add in the 6.5 SAUM? Don just use the 300 RSAUM because that is the case I am using and change the bullet and the measurements to reflect the 6.5 mm?

6.5mm RSAUM is already loaded in QL .vol case file.
Click on the tab at top for search *.vol files, and type in for .264 caliber
The list will populate every .264 caliber stored.

Just need to 'tweak' the H20 capacity to your particular case volume...

139 Scenars are looking good so far in my new rifle

Rem 300 SAUM Brass
61 Grains H1000
