Re: LONG ISLAND N.Y. Shooters?????

I live on Long Island in East Northport. Hardly ever get to shoot but occasionally shoot service rifle matches at PRSC. I can rarely be found in Calverton or Brookhaven since they closed the Huntington range.

Not many long range shooting opportunities on the Island. Other than 200 yard ranges at Brookhaven and Calverton, and some private clubs with 200 yard ranges, I don't know of any other distance ranges. Certainly nothing as far as 1000 yards. It would be nice to have at least a 500 yard range on the Island, but if it is here I don't know about it. 200 yards seems to be the limit on the Island. Otherwise it is a drive upstate, or the NJ.

Wow, I am originally from East Northport and I used to shoot at Huntington, Calverton, occasionally at Brookhaven and high power matches at PRSC.

I moved out here to nePA in 1994, lots of places to soot and you can own NFA firearms. I really feel sorry for you guys stuck back there, not too much love for guns out there. I hated the drive to Yaphank to add handguns to my carry license.

BTW When did they close the Huntington range?

Re: LONG ISLAND N.Y. Shooters?????

Huntington range closed a long time ago. Id say 10yrs maybe. It was a nice safe range. From what I remember it was one of the few things the town ran that didnt loose money.

Yes, it actually made money, unlike all of the other programs run by the township which lost money.

Besides Calverton, you might try Peconic, although you need to be a member's guest if you aren't a member yourself.

Smithtown/kings park area myself. Its great there are so many people from the area on here.

And by the way I have not confirmed it but Calverton has a 300 yard range available as per their website. "
May thru September
300 Yard available Saturdays 5:00PM-7:00PM"

planning on heading to Calverton this Sunday, if anyone's around or planning on going feel free to pm me...

I want to, but not sure if I'm going to make it before 4. I just bought a 5R Milspec and Vortex PST that I'm having mounted and bore-sighted at Camp-Site, so not sure how long that will take. However, I'll be there next weekend.

I was from there shooting high power at prsc rosyln Calverton and camp smith 3 hours from Suffolk. Rosyln is a private club but has a fairly straight forward admittance policy. It helps to know people but is accessible when they open for events to meet people and potential sponsors
