Depends on the load, depends on the can, depends on the DA.
Seems paint can have more ductile steel than do soup cans. So they stretch more instead of pierce...
I was using federal bulk and the paint can was just some construction touch up paint can in from my garage. I was shooting at 1/2in steel targets but the wind was so strong I couldn't hear the hits at all.
Only if it was empty and out of propellant to boot. We routinely bust paint cans at CVRPC. It was a glancing blow if your paint stayed in the can. It was not a direct hit.
Must be some super thick type of can, they usually zip right thru both sides no problem at 250. Sometimes a edge hit might glance off but really puts a big dent in it but a decent hit usually goes right thru.
Today I has some solid center of the can hits and still just dented the empty can. I did shoot a can with pressure still in it and it zipped right through both sides in that one with a glorious flip of the can off it's perch
Hmm idk what my old guns issue is. Today some if the rounds went through a swinging paint can some didn't. I shot at a cardboard target and some of the holes were key holed. In the morning I'm going to a gun show and hopefully I'll pick up my new fvsr and a new scope as well
sounds like the round starts to tumble right around the 200yard mark. i picked up some lead after it hit the drum and they were flat with the rear of the bullet in the center.i picked up about 20 and all looked like they were flying true till impact.
