Hey guys,

Northeast PA Trout season is fast approaching and I've been toying around with getting a new rod setup for trout. Where we fish you're flinging bait in between trees so I use 4' 6" Ugly Stiks and they've worked great for the past few years.

My only gripe about the Ugly Stiks is how they'll look like a candy cane when you're trying to pull a fish out of the water. They don't break, which is awesome but they do bend a lot.

Can't really complain for a $50 rod but I've been wondering if I'd like something a bit more.

GLoomis has some nice ones, but man they are pricey.

Anyone else use a similar setup and can recommend something different to try?

I dont think hes looking for a fly rod guys. Hes using an ugly stick. If your looking for a spinning rod, consider a fast action and light / ultra light power St Croix. Gander mountain also makes a nice IM* graphite rod which has a lifetime warranty.

I've used Fenwick rods for years and loved em'. I currently use a Fenwick HMX 6'6" Rod with a fast action and medium/light power as my trout rod and for trout 16"+ it works perfect. I'll have to admit, I'll likely be switching to a GLoomis this year but Fenwick has served me very well through the years so if you don't want to pay the price of a GLoomis and want a great rod, I'd go with a Fenwick.
