Hey guys, I'm looking to put 3-4 security cameras around the outside of the house. I like the idea of wireless that records to a small dvr.

Does anyone have a setup like this

Re: Looking for advice on security cameras

I have a 4 camera dvr system. I would get the 8 camera next time around. 4 works on a square house but I have a detached shop. I have good coverage around the house and the doors to the shop but i would prefer A few more cameras.

Re: Looking for advice on security cameras

I know this sounds really basic... but evaluate what you expect the system to do before you spend money.

Do you expect it to just record that an event occurred (capture the action) or do you expect it to record enough detail to identify who participated? A wide shot showing you an overall view of an area usually isn't going to record enough detail of a person or vehicle to identify them.

Many people & businesses are disappointed to find that their system did nothing more then tell them that something occurred. It takes the right camera for the job, and the DVR needs to be recording at a frame rate & resolution that captures the details the camera is seeing.
