Hello all. I've been lurking about reading for some time and thought it was time for my first post. I'm in the process of getting my 'dream gun' built. I ordered a SASS(isn) build from JP based on the LRP-07. I have to say that the experience with JP has been nothing less than exceptional. So I have a few questions about some minor details and wanted to solicit a bit of advice. The goal of this build is to be my main gun for hunting (deer and northern predators), target stuff, etc.
Twenty years ago I was quite the shot on the 1000M ranges while in the US Army Infantry and have my share of training. My goal is to have a rifle that can take full advantage of .308 and thus am looking at taking this reliably to 600-800M with some likely playing around out to 1000-1200M+. I want something that's carry-able, but not a carbine build. I went through basic training with M16A1s, so longer barrels and fixed stocks aren't a concern.
Here's my two questions:
1. I'm leaning towards an 18" barrel but have considered going 20"; what would you suggest, and why?
2. I'm installing a Bushnell HDMR Tac Elite optic with the H59 reticle and decided on a JPoint red-dot for a backup/0-100M sight. I'm also installing a Magpul PRS stock and am on the fence as to where to install it; options are on the handguard at the 1:30 position (I'm a lefty) or on top of the scope; which would you recommend, and why?
Thanks in advance for any information.
