Guys,
What powder are you getting your best accuracy and temp stability out of in your .300 win mags shooting 190-210s? Chad is rebarreling one for me right now with a 26" Brux and .300 Win Mag Match chamber. I was thinking H1000, but don't want a compressed load. Ideas would be appreciated!

Guys the reason I ask, is because I don't want to have a cold weather load and a hot weather load, but rather expect match-grade accuracy from just one load to use in all conditions.

They're using 24" barreled .300s with Sierra 220 MatchKings and require an average of 2850 fps with 70 deg. F +-5fps.

This seems like it would take a fairly high pressure load to duplicate. (Yes I know I said 190-210gn in the first post)

H1000 is very stable in changing temps.

A compressed load is not a bad thing, and that Mk248 m1 spec you posted lists H1000 as the spec propellant.

The nominal muzzle velocity in the spec, with a 26" barrel works out to about 62ksi via QuickLoad at the nominal seating depth length.

I know a number of guys running the 300 WM and with H1000 the 200-220gr class of bullets is fantastic.

Until over 220gr Retumbo is too slow IMO, you get 105% case fills before pressure is realized generally. Conversely H4931sc tends to be somewhat fast and while it will work, you can get better speeds with H1000.

This is actual test experiences based on trade studies from QuickLoad.

My suggestion is to trust that Crane spec and run the H1000... but give a whirl on the Hornady 225's that just came out too. The doppler radar confirmed BC's are higher than those of the 240 SMK.

I also use H1000 in my 300WM.

As stable as any powder I have tried in extreme temperatures, and great for any (I have used 165-220g) bullet weight.

The 208g Hornady Match bullet is a sure winner, I haven't had a chance to wring out the newest 225g Hornady match bullet yet.

I just returned from So Africa where the Interbond bullet and H1000 did a great job from VERY close (Impala for hyena bait) to just over 450yds on a 57" Kudu bull.

There are certainly other powders, but H1000 is a simple choice in 300WM.

mine too. 165 gr and above, soft points, SST ballistic tips, even the Amax and sierra match HP.

Mine tack drives the Barnes Triple Shocks with IMR 4350. My target loads, 208gr Amax, love Reloader 22 and Hodgon 4831SC

I'm shooting a BAT Repeater Action with a 1:10 Krieger barrel in a McMillan Adj A3-5

Yesterday I brought home a new Sako TRG-42 in black trim with muzzle break, and NFX 5.5x-22x-50. I'm currently working on loading the 208 Amax with R22, but the person I bought the rifle from said that R25 is better with heavier bullets because it has a slower rate of burn. Does anyone here have experience with the 208 Amax, R22 & R25? If so do you notice one is more accurate than the other? I'd also like to get some H1000 but I haven't found any locally yet and I don't like paying hazmat fee's.

R22 and RL25 are both pretty temp sensitive. H1000 will give you great temp stability, better speeds than RL22, and within 25fps of the RL25 all year around.

H1000 is also extremely consistent and capable of extremely good repeatability.

H-1000. I have tried RL-22 itr works good with the lighter bullets 180's and down, the same with 4831. You just can't beat H-1000 200's and above plus it is very temp stable.

R22 is the best overall powder for the 300WM, mainly for about 160-190 grain bullets. It is not a finiky combination and is easy to find a good load for. But it is temp sensitive in extreme temp swings. For lighter bullets, either 4350 is great. For 190+ weights, H1000 is awesome. Myself and others are running Retumbo with the 225 Hornady's with good success.

Agreed this is good advice. Id try H1000 and see how she does cant go wrong in my opinion.

I use rl22 and rl25 with basically the same dope from February to August. Just a few clicks difference. Doesn't seem to be very "temp sensitive" to me.
