I'm looking to build an SBR and would like some help. No $$$ spending limit.
I haven't decided yet what lower, trigger, upper to buy, barrel length, (I was thinking 11.5" but I'm not sure) I also would like to put a suppressor on it and I would like your help.
A lot of pros on this forum that can give great advice on what to get. I have seen some nice build sbr's and a lot of great help. If you have any advice and can help please let me know. Like I said there is NO spending limit.

If you are going to shoot suppressed, my humble opinion is to look at something with an adjustable gas block. Whether you go DI with a Noveske switchblock type or piston with something like and LWRC, it's about preference.

Who is John Galt?

Go to mr silencer, he has everything you need to build an sbr and get a suppressor.

He is in Mesa, he also does demo shoots so you can test out class 3 items and even shoot your build while you wait for your stamps.

I'll post up my build in a second when I get on a pc

ok I have done 3 Ar builds with Mr Silencer, 2 Sbr's and 1 SPR

here is what I went with:

my 5.56 build

seekins upper/lower
Noveske NSR rail 9''
Novesker 10.5'' barrel
Geissele trigger
magpul str stock

Specwar 5.56 suppressor

My 9mm build

DDLES lower stamped Mr Silencer
sun devil upper
seekins SAR 9'' rail
magpul ctr
5'' 3 lug barrel

Octane 9 suppressor

All of these are products he has in stock most of the time. Check out his facebook.

I hear NFA wait times are horrible right now. Get a lower that has all the options you want to do your paperwork because it's going to take forever. The rest of the build won't be a hurry.

I hear Santan is going to have matched upper lower sets. From there I would use a 11.5 CHF barrel like DD, adjustable gas block, etc....

something to consider regarding building your own sbr vs building it through an ffl.

If you buy the lower and submit forms yourself you have to engrave the lower with your trust name if you are going the trust route. I hope you like your trust name...
If you build it through an ffl yes you dont have the lower in hand during the wait times but you end up with a lower that is only engraved with the factory brand name and the companies name from which you "built" it. rather than having your trust name permanently engraved on a rifle.

No spending limit? Buy a factory SBR or go to a local dealer like Mr. Silencer and have him build it to your specs. Once fully paid for, you can take it out to any of his many free demo shoots and go have a nice conjugal visit with your build until it has been broken out of jail.

If you want to build one on your own and have a spare 16" barrel around so you can shoot it while you wait on a form 1, that is always an option as well if you want to be able to shoot it while you wait. Don't build it as a pistol unless you enjoy shooting AR pistols, I don't find them to be very fun personally.

I suggest start with the PRI website, they were the First Crane built MK 12 Mod 0........good info!

Suggest start with a Colt upper and Lower

for close quarters look at the MK 18 Mod 0

Picture below is my MK 12 Mod 0

If you don't even know what you want, how will anyone else here know what you want?

How about you do some research, spend a few weeks reading, and then come back and make an informed post soliciting opinions on gear choices.

What the fuck does a MK12 have to do with a SBR?

Its like someone asking about F-150's and you telling them to go buy a space shuttle.

No spending limit huh?

Well I saw a couple of different ads for a real deal HK416 upper in 10.5" with OTB features. It was built in 2013. Could be yours for a mere $6,800.

BR,

I'd suggest you build a pistol while you wait for your paperwork to catch up, thats just me though. In doing that, get the SIG arm brace, its a buttstock for all practical purposes. Pick up a KAK, a PWS or a Phase 5 pistol extension tube. The lower can be any of the ones mentioned so far. I'd throw out there SIONICs name as well. They are down the road in Tucson from you and you can also get a 11.5 barrel and complete upper from them. I'd suggest a HiperFire 24E or 243G trigger. For flash hider/brake, there are a plethora of them out there so you can have your pick. The Noveske PIG is popular, the Ferfrans CRD, the BAE flash hider, AAC and believe it or not, the old tried and true birdcage are all pretty decent choices for short barrels

Once your paperwork comes in, swap out the pistol extension tube with a carbine one add your favorite buttstock and you have your SBR. Once you know which can you have/want you can also swap out the muzzle device unless you go with the AAC from the start.

My setup is as follows:
-LMT 10.5" Defender 2000
-Daniel Defense Lite 10.0 rail
-Geissele SD3G trigger
-Larue hands stop and index clips
-Magpul MIAD
-Inforce HSP Light
-Aimpoint T1 on a LaRue mount
-Magpul MBUS

In the end, it was just as cheap to buy a factory LMT and not mess with buffer weights and gas issues building my own.

for what use?

I would go for a PWS if I could afford it! Tried someone else's and it was flawless all day with lots of different ammo and very accurate---had their proprietary muzzle device.

PWS's prices for complete guns is outlandishly high, as are some of their pieces/parts IMO. Just look at what they cahrge for their precision rifle in a KRG chassis, it's ludicrious. Don't get me wrong, they have some nice stuff but I think they are smoking crack in some respects. There are plenty of turn key SBRs that work as good or better than a PWS gun and are significantly less. BUT, the OP said money wasn't an issue so your recommendation is valid, I just wouldn't consider them a first choice.

I like to build my own, as factory stuff rarely suites my needs. I just set up two 11.5" SBRs for my trust, the builds were as follows:
-Mega forged upper and lower
-11.5" barrels, one from Noveske, one from BCM. Both will shoot at or under MOA with 3.5x and 4x optics. The BCM seems to be chambered a little tighter than I would like.
-Giessele SD3G triggers
-Giessele handguards
-Magpul ACS-L stocks

I would highly, highly, recommend setting your gun up with an adjustable gas block right from the get go. And I would highly, highly recommend using a quality stainless barrel 11.5" long. I researched the barrel length issue to death, and it seemed 11.5 was the clear winner in terms of velocity, compactness, and reliability.

That KAC can sucks donkey balls, and I am one of the biggest KAC champions on this website. The eclan blows chunks as well.

The SR-15 11.5 is strait dirty though. One of the finest SBR's you can buy/build.

For 223 i like a 12" barrel with a 10" handguard. That way you have something to hold onto while shooting it. and a 12" barrel isnt to violent. Something like this
Pro Series 12" - SPROv3

Now, if you are going to setup to run subsonic suppressed all the time or want to do a 300 blackout suppressed this is the ticket...
Pro Series 8" - SPROv3

All of our uppers come complete, test fired and ready to drop onto a lower.

Get you a 5.56QDC and MAMS brake instead of the NT4 & Tripletap. Maybe a 1-6/6.5x variable optic instead of a SpecterDR. 10.5" thru 12.5" are all quality. All depends on what you personally place at a higher priority - overall length of weapon vs ballistic performance, etc. KAC, Noveske are the two SBR set ups I'd put at the tippity top.

Glen,
I just looked at those on your site today. I didn't end up buying one, however, as there was no info on twist rate or barrel weights for either the fluted or non-fluted options. Could you help a good ole' boy with some of that info?

Ya, our site still isn't completly done yet. Sorry about that! Our blackouts are 1-7 and 223's (Wylde chamber) are 1-8. We use Rock blanks. I don't have the weights off the top of my head, but can get them for you. The uppers come with gunfighter charging handle, a melonite bolt carrier group, adjustable gas block and gas tube. We also test fire so there ready to roll when you get it.
